'Thadam' is a crime-thriller, directed by Magizh Thirumeni. After 'Thadaiyara Thakka', Arun Vijay and Magizh Thirumeni joined hands for this film. For the first time, Arun Vijay plays a dual role in this film.
Positives
Arun Vijay delivers a fantabulous performance. For both characters 'Ezhil' and 'Kavin', he has given a good variation. In both action and romantic portions, he has given his usual best. Tanya Hope and Smruthi Venkat have played a usual heroine role only. They both have given their decent performance. Vidya Pradeep plays a cop role in the film. She delivers a convincing performance. Her character gets strong importance in the second half, where she has utilized the given space properly. Sonia Agarwal plays an extended cameo like role. She has given her usual best. Yogi Babu and Fefsi Vijayan have played their part well. Gopinath's cinematography work is really good. N.B.Srikanth's editing helps to maintain the suspense throughout the film. Arun Raj's songs are not bad. 'Inayae' song gives a pleasant feel. His background score looks good in the investigation & twist revealing portions. Director Magizh Thirumeni has selected a simple crime thriller plot, in which he adds some interesting elements into it. With those elements, he presents this film in a very engaging and entertaining way. In the beginning, he deals with the life of 'Ezhil' and 'Kavin' in a parallel way. At a point, he introduces the conflict, which makes way for the gripping flow. From there, the screenplay becomes very interesting. His screenplay goes on creating more puzzles, which increases our curiosity towards the police investigation portions. In few parts, he ties the knot very tightly, which makes our predictions to go wrong at a point. All these things makes us to feel an edge-of-the-seat experience. The climax portion is really good, in which the twists are really convincing.
Negatives
The director takes some time (approx.40 mins) to introduce the conflict. Till that, he deals with the life of those dual characters played by Arun Vijay. Even though those portions doesn't create any boring feel, the director could have finished those portions within 20-25 minutes. If he had done it, the screenplay in the first half would have been much crispier. Few of them might guess the twists towards the climax. But, they will show a strong interest that how the director is going to reveal those twists. Other than these, the gripping screenplay will not allow us to find any flaws.
Verdict
'Thadam' is a very good crime thriller from the director Magizh Thirumeni. Arun Vijay steals the show easily. After introducing the conflict, the screenplay becomes gripping and engaging, till the end. It makes our guesses to go wrong in many parts. The flaws are negligible only. We will really come out of the theatre with complete satisfaction. So, this film deserves 'must watch once' for Arun Vijay's solid performance and also for the gripping screenplay. Watch it in theatres nearby you.
