Plot - A medical company tries to take over 'Aranganadhan Playground' for their self-purpose. That playground is used for the practise of many youngsters, who are interested in hockey. Harichandran (Karu Pazhaniappan), a local politician makes a deal with that medical company, to occupy that land for a lump amount. Shanmugam (Harish Uthaman), the coach for those youngsters tries to save their playground through a hockey tournament. Who is Prabhakaran ('Hip Hop Tamizha' Adhi) and how he helps them to win in hockey tournament forms the crux of the story.
Positives
'Hip Hop Tamizha' Adhi shines well as a hockey player. He delivers a good performance in the second half. In both the interval and climax, he will easily grab the audience's attention through his screen presence. Anagha makes a decent debut in Kollywood through this film. She has played her part well. Karu Pazhaniappan plays as a corrupt politician role, in which he delivers a solid performance. It's a usual corrupt politician role only, but he steals the show casually in his own style of body language and dialogue delivery. The way, he checkmates his opponent works well. Harish Uthaman delivers a very convincing performance, by justifying the coach role perfectly. We have seen him only as an antagonist in most of the films, but this positive character will be one of his career best. 'Eruma Saani' Vijay and Shah Ra makes us laugh for their comedy in selected portions. All the other actors have given their decent support throughout the film. Aravinnd Singh's cinematography work is really excellent, in which his visuals look colorful and it will attract us easily. Especially, the hockey match scenes have been captured in a very lively way. Ferry Oliver's editing looks good in selected parts. 'Hip Hop Tamizha' Adhi's songs are as usual impressive. 'Kerala Song', 'Single Pasanga' and 'Aathadi' songs are my favorites. The visuals of these songs will make the youngsters to go crazy for it. His background score looks good in most of the major portions. The story, screenplay and dialogues have been done by Sreekanth Varsp - Devesh Jayachandran. They have given their complete best to provide a good entertainer to the audience. Parthiban Desingu has directed the film. His making is really good, in which he has given his fullest effort to satisfy the audience's expectations. The plot is simple only, in which it gets a different angle through sports content. The film opens with a very good start. In the first half, the screenplay provides decent entertainment without any boring elements. The interval block is ultimate, which will be enjoyed by youngsters. In the second half, the screenplay becomes serious at a point. From there, the film moves in an engaging way, by creating great interest in the hockey tournament. The climax portion, which is nothing but the hockey match looks very intriguing, which has some edge-of-the-seat moments. The interval block and the climax portion is the biggest highlight.
Negatives
When compared to the second half, 'Hip Hop Tamizha' Adhi's performance is not so convincing in the first half. The romantic portions between Adhi and Anagha are not upto the mark. It has been followed by a very usual pattern. So, the romantic portions are not much enjoyable, when compared to 'Hip Hop Tamizha' Adhi's previous film 'Meesaya Murukku'. The pattern of humour content looks similar to 'Meesaya Murukku'. So, only selected comedy portions helps to make us laugh. Even though the placement of some songs looks unnecessary, the visuals of those songs will make you forgive it. Despite many issues in the first half, the screenplay doesn't create a boredom feel. In the second half, 'Hip Hop Tamizha' Adhi's emotional flashback looks usual only. So, the connect is not much stronger. Many logical loopholes are here and there. Ferry Oliver's cuts have an abrupt finish in most of the portions. So, his editing could have been better. Even though the title is 'Natpe Thunai' (In Friendship We Trust), I felt that friendship emotion is treated in a normal way. Apart from these flaws, I enjoyed the film completely like the other audience.
Verdict
'Natpe Thunai' is a good commercial entertainer in recent times, with a perfect blend of sports and politics content. The screenplay execution is really good, in which the entertainment factor works well in most of the portions. The interval block and the climax portion will be definitely enjoyed by all. The flaws, which I mentioned above are negligible only. While coming out of the theatre, you will really get satisfied with the film. So, this film deserves 'worth watchable once' category. 'Hip Hop Tamizha' Adhi and his team will not disappoint you. Enjoy this youthful entertainer with your gang in theatres. The family audience will also enjoy this film.
