Plot - The film's period is set in 1992. Jeeva (Madhampatty Rangaraj) lives in Poombarai, which is located in Kodaikanal. Along with his friend, he runs a cassette shop there and his father is a highly influenced person. A circus troupe named 'Mehandi Circus' comes to Poombarai, to conduct daily two shows there. Jeeva falls in love with the circus owner's daughter 'Mehandi' (Swetha Tripathi), who is one among the performers in that circus. She also loves him. What are all the problems they faced and did their love succeed forms the crux of the story.

Performance of the Star Cast - Madhampatty Rangaraj and Swetha Tripathi have made a good debut in Kollywood, through this 'Mehandi Circus' movie. Madhampatty Rangaraj delivers a neat performance, in which his emotions work very well throughout the film. Swetha Tripathi looks pretty and some of her expressions looks cute. She delivers a solid performance, by knowing the depth of her character 'Mehandi' perfectly. The chemistry between Madhampatty Rangaraj - Swetha Tripathi is good. The romance portions between them look realistic and the pain of true love has been conveyed properly through their characters. RJ Vigneshkanth plays his supporting character decently. Vela Ramamoorthy and Marimuthu have done their part very well. The other lead supporting characters have given their decent performance. All the other actors have given their good support throughout the film.

Technical Works - Selva Kumar SK's cinematography work is really excellent. Through his visuals, he adds more beauty to this romantic drama. He has shown the locations in Kodaikanal in a very pleasing way. Some of the aerial shots are so superb. Philomin Raj's editing work is also good, in which his cuts are so sharp and sleek. He maintains a very good flow, by making us enjoy the romantic moments between the lead pair. The art director Sathish Kumar has to be appreciated for giving the period feel, in a perfect way. So, the film will make 90's kids to experience some nostalgic moments. 'Maestro' Ilayaraja lovers will have a strong connection with the film. The music director Sean Roldan is the real hero of the film. All the songs in the film convey the feeling of true love strongly, whether it deals with happiness or pain of love. His music is the real soul of this film. His background score is really pleasant and it will make us travel along with the film's journey.

Director's Involvement with the Script - Director Raju Murugan has written the story and the dialogues for the film. His assistant 'Saravana Rajendhiran' makes his directorial debut in Kollywood through this film. Director Raju Murugan's story is simple and usual only, in which the 'circus' element is the highlight in it. His dialogues are really good, in which some of his dialogues convey many sensible opinions. Especially, the conversation of the people in that period looks lively. The writing of the lead characters is really good. The detailing work is also very good. The caste discrimination has been used in the romantic drama to create opposition for the lead pair's love, which is very usual only. But, the way the director handles that element is really convincing. Also, he handles 'true love' and the pain behind it in a very matured way.

Screenplay Execution - The screenplay execution is really enjoyable. The circus portions in the film will entertain the audience. The songs have been used as the montage, which is a good advantage and it easily explains the emotions between the lead characters. In the beginning, the film takes some time to create strong interest. Later, we will travel along with the love journey of Jeeva-Mehandi and we will feel for the sweet & tough moments between them. The climax portion has a feel-good touch, which creates a good impression.

Negatives - The film will really take some time to create interest in the romantic portions. For some people, the film will make a connect with them from the mid of the first half. For some people, the film will make a connect with them completely in the second half. So, it depends on an individual's mindset. But, the film will not make you feel bored at any moment. The plot and the conflict set for it looks usual only, which we have seen in many romantic films. So, the predictability factor plays a game in some parts. Because of that, a few scenes will give a usual feel only. The screenplay pace is slow only, as the film needs it to convey the emotions strongly. So, we also need the patience to enjoy the romantic moments between them. The film will not work with the people, who expect entertainment in a romantic subject. So, they will not watch the film with much interest.

Verdict
'Mehandi Circus' is really a beautiful feel-good romantic drama from the director Saravana Rajendhiran. The performance of the star cast is completely convincing. Sean Roldan's music is the soul of the film, which conveys the emotions of true love in a very touching way. The screenplay execution is really good in both the half. The above-mentioned flaws are negligible only. This film will give you some nostalgic moments. You will come out of the theatre with good and decent satisfaction. So, this film deserves 'worth watchable once' category for the lead pair's performance and also to experience some joyful & painful moments of true love. Watch it in theatres with your family and friends.

Note - The romantic genre lovers and music lovers (especially die-hard fans of 'Maestro' Ilayaraja) should not miss this film.

Cut Short Rating - 8.3/10
