Plot - Murugavel (Vijay Antony), a strict cop lives in Viruthunagar along with his younger brother. He wants his younger brother, to be a cop like him. But, Murugavel's pressure on training makes his brother to hate him and also to involve in some bad activities. Later, he gets separated from Murugavel, by travelling to Chennai. After two years, Murugavel gets transferred to Chennai. There, he finds his younger brother as a great juvenile criminal in the city. He comes to know that a group of juvenile criminals, including his brother work for 'Meesai' Padma (Sai Dheena). He executes many illegal activities, through these people. How Murugavel puts an end to 'Meesai' Padma and juvenile crimes forms the crux of the story.

Performance of the Star Cast - Vijay Antony suits well for that cop character 'Murugavel', with a good body language. His performance looks decent as well as convincing. Still, his anger expressions could have been more better. Nivetha Pethuraj doesn't come as an usual heroine role, just for hero's romantic interest. Her characterisation has a great importance towards the main track. She delivers her best, for her cop character 'Madonna'. Sai Dheena plays the usual antagonist role. As usual, he delivers his terrific evil performance. Sindhuja (a transgender) gets a good role, in which she has done her part well. Vinoth Munna, Aadhira Pandilakshmi, Sampath Ram and Vijay Sathya have given a decent justification for their characters. The actors, who played as the juvenile criminals have done their part well. All the other actors have given a good support to the film.

Technical Works - Richard M.Nathan's cinematography work is as usual good. Especially, the night scene visuals have been captured well. Vijay Antony handles the editing and music of the film. His editing looks good, still some of the cuts could have been better. His songs are good. 'Naga Naga', 'Thimiru Pudichavan' and 'Nee Unnai Maatrikondal' songs are my favourites. His background score elevates few action and emotional scenes in a good way. In few scenes, the CG works doesn't have a good quality.

Director's Involvement with the Script - Director Ganeshaa deserves an appreciation for taking 'juvenile crimes' as the core plot. As the content is so strong, he tries to present it with a commercial package, for a wider reach. His intention to present this content, with a commercial treatment is not bad. But, the screenplay execution has to be more stronger for this content to create a stronger impact among the audience. In that case, his commercial treatment backfires. He gives importance to the sentiment scenes, but he makes it dramatic at a stage. His writing of every character is not bad. Still, the powerful cop elements goes missing. His commercial package gets overloaded at a point, which makes the entire content to be normal. His dialogues are really good. He gives less importance for the romance track. But, his treatment doesn't look impressive, which comes as a disturbance to the main track.

Screenplay Execution - In the first half, the film opens with a very good start. Without making the subject bored, the screenplay maintains a good flow initially. After Vijay Antony's police transformation, the screenplay makes the audience to lose their interest in the beginning. Later, it comes back to the form. Towards the interval, the screenplay slightly steps into the engaging track. The interval block sets a great conflict point, which promises us a good second half. In the second half, the screenplay has many issues. Initially, Vijay Antony's idea to reduce the public's fear & juvenile criminals's respect towards Sai Dheena, looks good. For few minutes, the execution doesn't look bad. At a point, this idea goes silly just because of an amateurish treatment. In between, 'Lord Murugan' sentiment plays a major part in the plot. With that sentiment, the director creates some good positive thoughts among the audience. But, it doesn't create a great impression among the audience. Towards the climax, the screenplay creates a laughter experience to the audience. The climax portion has good action, but still it doesn't look much convincing.

Main Negatives of the Film - In the film, Vijay Antony suffers from insomnia disorder, which makes his blood pressure to be very unstable in few situations. The director has used this disorder throughout the film, but the way he presents it is not so convincing. The director tries to give a clear picture of how a good cop should be. But, his treatment to set that picture is not upto the mark. The idea in the second half is really good, but the execution doesn't give a good justification for that idea. With 'juvenile crimes' content, the director could have tried many different engaging elements within the commercial package. But, he implements few silly ideas in that, which spoils the entire mood of the film. He gives importance to some sentiments, which could have been used for few scenes. When the sentiment repeats on a over-loop, the screenplay will become over-dramatic. So, the director could have concentrated more to set a proper limit for sentiments. The execution in the first half is not bad. But, the execution of the second half is completely disappointing. Just because of the overloaded commercial package, the logical loopholes are seen in many parts. Because of these issues, the director's good message doesn't get properly delivered.

Verdict
'Thimiru Pudichavan' is a below average cop entertainer from the director Ganeshaa. Just with a strong content, the audience will not get a strong impact. But, the strong content needs an entertaining and engaging screenplay, to make it completely registered in the audience's minds. In that case, the director fails. So, the commercial packaging doesn't look convincing. It makes the audience to come out of the theatre with many disappointments. If you are a great commercial/masala film lover, this film will work for you decently. This film deserves 'watchable once' category for the good content and also for Vijay Antony's decent performance. Watch with very low expectations, to doesn't get disappointed much.

Cut Short Rating - 6.3/10 (For 'Juvenile Crimes' Content)
