Plot - Pichamoorthy is a barber. Manga is a rowdy, who comes in parole for a small time period. Once a small quarrel happens between them. In what way, the small quarrel makes Pichamoorthy's life into a great trouble and how he sorted it out forms the crux of the story.
Performance of the Star Cast - Every character in the film had a strong dedication towards their role. Director Ram Sir and Director Mysskin Sir stole the show with their wonderful performance. Their performance highly reflects their love towards the cinema. Poorna has to be appreciated for accepting the pregnant lady role, as she gave a good justification to that character. She scored well in the space given for her to perform. Swathishta Krishnan's characterisation was small, still she gave her best. Ashvath, Ruthru and all the other actors have really done their job well. Shaji Chen Sir's cameo in the second half was nice.
Technical Works - Karthik Venkatraman's cinematography was nice, which gels well with the Mysskin's screenplay execution. The small detailing were shown in a good manner. S.Julian's editing looked neat and sleek. Arrol Corelli's background score elevated the situation and the dark humour behind it. He always give his best for the Mysskin's films.
Director's Involvement with the Script - Director Adhithyaa, who is the assistant director of Mysskin proved his best. In some scenes, his style of direction looks so good and unique. So, he proved himself as a great director like his master. He presented the simple plot in a very good manner. The curiosity was created well among the audience, that how the conflict will come to an end.
Screenplay Execution - Director Mysskin Sir handled the story and screenplay of the film. So, the screenplay execution will be in Mysskin's style. In the first half, the main conflict began in very few minutes of the film. Later on, the screenplay became so intense with a very good dark humour. The humour gels well with the situation and made the entire audience convinced in those parts. The interval block was so superb. In the second half, the humour worked out well only in some parts. Some lagging issues disturbs the flow. So, it took some time to get into the track. Towards the climax, the emotions were very well handled. The climax of the film began in a good pace, but ends with a very simple treatment.
Main Negatives of the Film - I didn't face any issues in the first half. Because, the first half had very good situational humour, which was so convincing. But, when we come to the second half, the dark humour was not that much good. In some scenes, some elements looked artificial. The pace in the second half was not like the first half. The simple treatment could have been avoided, as the presentation in the beginning was so unique. So, the general audience may some issues in the second half.
Verdict
'Savarakathi' is a good emotional dark-comedy thriller, in which the simple plot was treated with a great uniqueness. But some issues in the second half will not fulfill some set of audience. If you are a great fan of Mysskin films, his assistant's work won't disappoint you. So, it deserves a 'worth watchable once' for a different treatment of dark humour with the sitation.
Cut Short Rating - 7.8/10
