Plot - Kaathavarayan goes to jail, in the case of raping his own lover Arasi. Naachiyar handles the investigation of this case. How she solved the mystery behind this case forms the crux of the story.

Performance of the Star Cast - Jyothika plays a good and rugged cop in the film. She apts well for the cop character and she strikes it with her usual best performance. She reflects the caring nature and arrogance of her characterisation in a very convincing way. GV Prakash Kumar gets a platform to deliver his good performance in this film. His changeover and dedication for this film is appreciable. Actress Ivana makes a decent debut with her neat performance. Rockline Venkatesh gives his best performance. All the other actors have done their part well.

Technical Works - Eshwar's cinematography looks good and natural. Especially, the car chase scene in the beginning looks so realistic. Sathish Suriya's editing is so crisp and neat. Ilayaraja's background score gels well with the mood of the film. It also conveys the emotion in those scenes in a very good manner.

Director's Involvement with the Script - We all know about Bala films, which always be treated in a very hard hitting manner. He always choose a raw content, which looks so lively. Likewise, he selects this rape issue as a strong plot for this film. But, his treatment and the screenplay execution for this film looks so simple. He doesn't focus on any unwanted elements. So he delivers it with a sharp 100 minutes, without any deviation from the plot. Some of the dialogues looks so good.

Screenplay Execution - In the first half, GV Prakash's characterisation plays an important role. After the car chasing scene, the film takes some time to settle into the plot. Later, the screenplay gets an interesting angle in the interval block. In the second half, Jyothika's characterisation plays an important role. Jyothika's screen presence elevates the second half in a very good form. Towards the climax, the screenplay is so superb. The climax with a strong social message is nice and also makes us emotional.

Main Negatives in the Film - Bala always impresses his set of audience with a very hard-hitting and crucial way of making. But in this film, he handles the screenplay execution of both the half with a very simple treatment. The usual impact, that a Bala film creates among the audience is missed in this film. So, Director Bala fans may get disappointed at that point. The romance between GV Prakash and Ivana looks artificial in some scenes. In both the half, the screenplay moves in a predictable flow. The film should have been certified with 'A' for some violent acts.

Verdict
'Naachiyar' is a good crime thriller drama from Bala's direction. The simple treatment of the subject will disappoint the expectations among the fans of Director Bala. But the strong content and the convincing performance of the star cast will not disappoint you. So, this film deserves 'worth-watchable once' category. Watch the film with low expectations.
