Plot - How a group of kids escaped from the haunted bungalow from the ghosts, kidnapper and murderer forms the crux of the story.
Performance of the Star Cast - Among all the actors, I loved the performance of those kids. Especially, Baby Monicka scored well in her portions. The other kids too done a great job in this film and perfectly matched with the reactions of current kids generation. Gheetha's characterisation was good only in some parts, but she did her part well. Dhilip Subbarayan delivered a good performance. N.Raja's characterisation was not that much stronger and his dialogue delivery was not in a good flow. Prasanth played a cameo role in this film as a cop.
Technical Works - Ravi Kannan's cinematography was nice, but the camera in the night scenes didn't have much clarity about the detailing. Vijay Velkutty's editing work was good. Shabir's background score gave a good intensity to the horror sequences in some parts. The CG works have to appreciated for giving a realistic feel.
Director's Involvement with the Script - Director Maarison tried a good attempt in his debut film by handling this kids entertainer script'. He fixed his target audience as the kids and gave a good justification in handling the entertaining elements for the kids. But, he should have given some importance to the general audience too. Because, some may feel uncomfortable in his writing. But at the same time, we have to appreciate him for not keeping a separate track of flashback for the ghosts.
Screenplay Execution - In the beginning of the first half, the screenplay was level beyond to test our patience. The entertaining factor for the kids were there in between. Towards the climax, the screenplay gets into a main track. The interval block was not bad. In the second half, the interrogation scenes between the ghost (Gheetha) and kids was very good. In between also, some lagging issues were there. Towards the climax, the screenplay was interesting. The climax with a good message from the kids was nice.
Main Negatives - The biggest negative is the execution of the first half. Because, Maarison took more time to get into the main track and those portions were not convincing. In second half, the director had some interesting elements to show his smartness, but he failed to execute that. Some of his dialogues should have made crispier. These flaws won't affect the mentality of kids to get entertained.
Verdict
'Sangu Chakkaram' is a complete kids horror entertainer and it's very rare to see films in Kollywood for kids. The elements in the film will satisfy the kids. But, when it comes to the general audience, only few will like this film. It deserves a 'one-time' watch for the target audience to get entertained. Go and watch with your kids or relative kids to spend time for their entertainment.
Cut Short Rating - 7/10 (For Satisfying The Target Audience)
