Plot - Kaali Rajan (R.Parthieban) is a great drug smuggler in Chennai. Karnan (Vishal) is a police inspector, who gets transferred from Tuticorin to Chennai. As he is a money-minded person, Kaali Rajan makes use of him to run his drug business without any problem. Sandhya (Pooja Devariya) is fighting to get justice for her sister, who has been brutally raped by Kaalirajan's brothers. How this issue makes Inspector Karnan transform as a good cop and fight against Kaali Rajan forms the crux of the story.

'Ayogya' is an official Tamil remake of Jr.NTR's Blockbuster Telugu Movie 'Temper'. In this film, Vishal plays the male lead. It is directed by a newcomer 'Venkat Mohan'.

Note - I have watched the original version 'Temper'. As the original version doesn't impress me completely, I have written my review for 'Ayogya' without comparing it with the original version. They haven't changed the screenplay pattern from the original version, except the climax portion.

Positives
As usual, Vishal suits well for the cop role very easily. He delivers a convincing performance. In the beginning, he comes as a bad cop. Even though the negative shade doesn't suit him completely, he has given his level best to be true to that character. After the transformation as a good cop, he steals the show. As usual, he beats the goons of the antagonist black and blue, with his own style of action. R.Parthieban has played his antagonist role in a good way, where his usual funny counter dialogues work well. His negative role cannot be considered very stronger, but he gives a good tough to Vishal in some major portions. Raashi Khanna has played her part decently. Pooja Devariya plays an important supporting role, where her character creates a turning point in the film. She delivers a neat performance. KS Ravikumar also plays an important supporting role, where he has given his best. Sonia Agarwal, MS Bhaskar and Pavithra Lokesh have played their part well. In the given limited space, Yogi Babu scores well with his one-liners. All the other actors have given their full support throughout the film. The cinematography work by V.I.Karthick is really good, with pleasant visuals. Ruben's editing looks sleek in the action sequences. Sam CS's songs are not bad. 'Kanne Kanne' song is impressive. His background score is really terrific in the action sequences. Director Venkat Mohan makes a decent debut in Kollywood, through this action thriller genre. The commercial treatment works well in the second half. Along with the commercial package, the film also deals with sexual harassment against women. In the second half, the director handles this rape issue in a sensible and responsible way. The way he sets the transformation from a bad to good cop is really good. His screenplay execution is not bad. In the first half, the screenplay deals with the friendship between Vishal - R.Parthieban, love between Vishal - Raashi Khanna and debate about being 'Corrupt Cop or Honest Cop' between Vishal - KS Ravikumar. The interval block is really massive with Vishal's complete action. In the second half, the screenplay enters into the main plot completely. After Vishal's transformation, the screenplay will be engaging to the audience, till the pre-climax portion. The climax portion doesn't look like a usual or routine one. The twist in the climax is simple, but it will be an unexpected one. This climax will create a good impact on the audience, as the social message has been strongly conveyed.

Negatives
When compared to the second half, the first half will not convince most of the audience. As the first half is completely treated with the commercial elements, most of the audience will feel like watching a usual stereotype entertainer. The romance track between Vishal and Raashi Khanna looks very artificial. So, the love portions will not create much interest. On the whole, the first half will convince only a few set of audience. After the transformation, the rivalry between Vishal and R.Parthieban looks normal only. In the first half, the placement of 'Vera Level-U' song looks force-fitted just for the commercial purpose. In the second half, the placement of 'God-u God-u' song is completely unnecessary, which could have been avoided. Like every commercial entertainer, logical questioning arises in this film too. As usual, most of the scenes are predictable only.

Verdict
'Ayogya' is a good action entertainer from the director Venkat Mohan. The performance of Vishal, R.Parthieban, KS Ravikumar and Pooja Devariya stays strong throughout the film. The first half will not convince everyone because of the commercial package. But, the second half is the saving grace of the film. As the rape issue in the second half gets a stronger foundation, the film will make a good connect with most of the audience. The climax will be different to the audience, which creates a good impact. You will come out of the theatre with a decent satisfaction. So, this film deserves 'worth watchable once' category. Make your expectations low and watch the film with your family & friends in theatres.
