Plot - Vaishnavi (Trisha) and Balki (Swaminathan) runs a bakery shop in Chennai. Panjabikesan (a) 'Cotton' (Yogi Babu) loves her friend Ambujam (Gayatri Iyer). He gets a job in a famous bakery shop in London, but he don't know to prepare cakes. He requests Vaishnavi to come with him to London, to help in preparing cakes for 2 months. For her friend's life, Vaishnavi and Balki goes along with him to London. How the ghost 'Mohini' (Trisha) comes in the life of Vaishnavi and what's the reason behind Mohini's revenge forms the remaining story.

'Mohini' is a Tamil-Telugu bilingual horror thriller film directed by R Madhesh. In this film, Trisha plays a dual role.

Performance of the Star Cast - Trisha Krishnan is the centre of attraction of this film. She delivers a convincing performance. She scores very well by showing a small difference for 'Vaishnavi' and 'Mohini' characters. She carries the entire film on her shoulder. Her screen presence only makes this usual horror-revenge thriller comfortable. Jackky Bhagnani's characterisation gets an importance only in the second half. Some lip-sync issues can be seen in some of his portions. Still, he justifies his character and makes a good debut. Yogi Babu gives his best in humour portions. It works well in few portions of the first half. Ganesh, Madhumitha and Swaminathan have done their part well. Mukesh Tiwari's negative shade characterisation doesn't work big. Suresh and Poornima Bhagyaraj have given their best in the given space. All the other actors have done their part neatly.

Technical Works - R B Gurudev's cinematography work is really nice. The locations of both London and Chennai have been visualized beautifully. Dinesh Ponraj's editing looks good only in few portions. His cuts have an abrupt finish in many portions. The songs composed by Vivek-Mervin doesn't impress a lot. But, 'Hey Un Kangal' and 'Mohini's Rage' songs are not bad. Aruldev's background score is good only in few portions. The quality of the CG works looks poor only.

Director's Involvement with the Script - Director R Madhesh takes the usual horror-revenge thriller subject only. Even though he selects that genre, he has to execute the screenplay with some interesting elements. But, the director fails in that part. He repeats the same cliches, which he have seen many times. Instead of Chennai, this revenge plot takes place in London. That's the only difference he made. He makes the predictability factor very strong. This makes him to struggle in creating a strong connect with the audience. The flashback portion of Mohini doesn't look lengthier. He doesn't keep unnecessary romantic tracks.

Screenplay Execution - In the first half, the film opens with a very usual start. After the introduction of Trisha and Yogi Babu, the screenplay steps into the main plot. The screenplay goes in an usual flow of love, revenge and comedy tracks. In between, the comedy portions entertains us a little bit. The interval block is an expected one. In the second half, the film takes the same usual flow for few minutes. Then, the film deals with the flashback of Mohini. The flashback portion is not bad. After that, the film completely focuses on the usual revenge treatment only. The climax of the film is also an expected one, but Trisha's screen presence makes it little bit convincing. The director finishes the film with a lead for the sequel.

Main Negatives of the Film - The biggest backdrop of this film is the high level predictability. Without any interesting elements, the director follows only cliches in the film. This is the reason why the audience doesn't get connected with the film. Some silly logic errors are seen in the second half. If the director focuses more on humour portions, the film would have some good laughter moments. The director fails to frame the story and screenplay strongly. But, Trisha's screen presence and Yogi Babu's few humour portions is the only comfort for the audience.

Verdict
'Mohini' is a very usual horror-revenge thriller, in which the screenplay doesn't create a strong interest. The predictability factor is very strong. Without showing any smartness, the director fails to impress the audience. Trisha's screen presence only saves the film for an extent. So, the film deserves 'watchable once' category for Trisha's performance and also for Yogi Babu's few comedy portions. If you are a die-hard fan of Trisha, go and watch the film for her without any expectations.
