Plot - Siva's face gets affected in a fire accident. His parents choose to 'Face Transplant' operation, to recover his face. Sakthi (Atharvaa), who dies during the coma stage becomes the donor for Siva (Atharvaa - After Face Transplant). When Siva lives happily, Sakthi's adversary tries to kill him by misunderstanding him as Sakthi. Who is Sakthi and how Siva finds it forms the crux of the story.
Positives
Atharvaa delivers a solid performance, where the director has used his complete potential properly. There is not much difference between 'Siva' and 'Sakthi' characters still, those characters creates a good impression. Megha Akash plays a usual heroine role only still, her portions doesn't come as a disturbance in between the main track. RJ Balaji and Indhuja have a major role in 'Sakthi' character's life. They have played their part very well, by coming as great support for Atharvaa. Sathish entertains us through a few of his one-liners. Upen Patel and Ravi Marya have played the main negative characters. They have justified it decently. Prasanna S Kumar's cinematography looks good in both rural and urban portions. Selva RK's editing work helps to maintain the screenplay pace in a good way. His cuts don't have any abrupt finish. Radhan's songs are okay. The romantic melody 'Mugaiyazhi' song is my favorite. His background score is good in the major portions. Director Kannan has selected good social content, in which he presents it in his usual commercial style. He shows the concept of 'River Interlinking' and the politics behind it through 'Sakthi' character. Through that, he talks about the importance of agriculture and how 'River Interlinking' will be a perfect solution. His treatment is not preachy, which is really a plus. His dialogues get applause from the audience. His screenplay execution is not bad. He presents the content, without any boring feel. In the first half, he enters into the main plot after the placement of 'Mugaiyazhi' song. From there, the screenplay creates a strong interest. In the second half, the screenplay maintains a good flow. The social message has been conveyed strongly. The climax portion is simple and good, in which the title has been justified there.
Negatives
The director takes much time to get into the main track. Even though he gives less importance for the romance between Atharvaa - Megha Akash, the duration for those portions could have been shortened. The interval block looks simple. So, it will make our expectations less for the latter half. Few of them may compare 'Face Transplant' idea with Telugu film 'Yevadu'. Except for the concept and the storyline, the screenplay of 'Boomerang' completely differs from it. The antagonists are not much stronger, which makes the conflict a little bit weak. As usual, logical loopholes are seen here and there. As the film doesn't have any strong twists and turns, the screenplay moves in a predictable way only. The engaging factor goes up and down, as the screenplay execution looks simple in most of the portions. So, we may get a feeling that some interesting elements are missing a little bit. The simple ending may not convince a few people.
Verdict
'Boomerang' is a good action thriller from the director R.Kannan, in which he has conveyed the social message convincingly. In the first half, the screenplay is not bad. But, the screenplay in the second half looks decent and convincing. Because of the above-mentioned flaws, the film creates a normal impact. Still, the director will not make us bored with the subject. We will come out of the theatre with a decent satisfaction. So, this film deserves 'worth watchable once' category for Atharvaa's performance and also for the director's good intention. With low expectations, watch the film in theatres.
