Plot - Everyone's mobile phone gets vanished automatically, during their presence itself. So, this issue becomes sensational. Meanwhile, three of them gets murdered in a different way. Dr.Vaseegaran ('Super Star' Rajinikanth) finds the reason behind this issue and he says that the humanoid robot 'Chitti' ('Super Star' Rajinikanth) only can handle it. Finally, he convinces the Home Minister to use 'Chitti' for this mission. Later, Dr.Vaseegaran and Chitti comes to know that 'Pakshi Rajan' (Akshay Kumar) is the man behind it. Why Pakshi Rajan creates such problems and how 'Chitti' puts an end to it forms the crux of the story.

Note - As I have watched the film in 2D version, I don't know about the 3D Experience. So, I haven't mentioned about the 3D effect in the Technical Works' category.

'2.0' is the sequel to Shankar's Blockbuster film 'Enthiran', which released in the year 2010. Along with 'Super Star' Rajinikanth, Akshay Kumar and Amy Jackson has played the other main lead characters, in this sequel.

Performance of the Star Cast - 'Super Star' Rajinikanth has delivered his usual best and convincing performance. As 'Chitti', he once again steals the show. In the entire climax, his acting is really superb. Akshay Kumar delivers a splendid performance, by completely justifying the negative role neatly. In the flashback portion, his love for birds has been shown well. His negative characterisation has been well-written, which makes him to give a equal tough to 'Super Star' Rajinikanth. Actor Jayaprakash has given voice for Akshay Kumar, which suits well with that character. Amy Jackson's role is just like a supporting character only. In the given space, she has given her complete best. Sudhanshu Pandey comes as the son of Professor 'Bohra' (played by Danny Denzongpa in 'Enthiran'). He plays a negative shade like role only, but his character looks weaker only. Adil Hussain, Dr.K.Ganesh, Anant Mahadevan, Kalabhavan Shajohn, Kaizaad Kotwal and Mayilsamy have done their part well. Aishwarya Rai Bachchan's character 'Sana' (shown as lover of Dr.Vaseegaran in 'Enthiran') is just used in few phone conversation scenes of Dr.Vaseegaran.

Technical Works - Nirav Shah's cinematography is really excellent, which makes the audience to love the visuals. Anthony's editing looks sharp and crisp, with sleek cuts. His cuts doesn't have any abrupt finish. AR Rahman's songs are good. 'Endhira Logathu Sundariye' is my favourite song. His background score looks good in few portions only. In this film, AR Rahman's usual standard of background score is not seen. The CG works are really mindblowing and breathe-taking. So, this makes the film to be technically top-notch.

Director's Involvement with the Script - Director Shankar has to be appreciated for giving us a great grandeur visual experience. Without taking an usual concept, he has selected 'Effect of Mobile Radiation on Birds' as the one-line of the film. Just with this concept, he has implemented many creative ideas, which are really stunning. The CG works have given a life to those ideas, which makes the output to match up with Hollywood standard. Without proper pre-visualization, these ideas would have gone wrong. This shows the proper time consumption by Shankar, for these ideas to work out very well. He makes a proper connect with the previous part 'Enthiran'. I thought that the romantic track 'Endhira Logathu Sundariye' will be definitely be a great speed breaker. He makes my thought to go wrong by placing that song in the end-credits. In 'Enthiran', Santhanam and Karunas has been used for humour portions. In this sequel, Director Shankar has made few situational humour, which travels well along with the main track. The interval block looks little bit different, by showing the loading timer for 15 mins as a break for audience. His screenplay execution is the major issue with me. Because, it doesn't make a strong connect with me in the first half.

Screenplay Execution - In the first half, the film opens with a good start. Without taking much time, the screenplay directly steps into the main track. From there, the screenplay maintains a proper flow and sets the conflict in a good way. After all the murders, the screenplay creates a great hype for Chitti's introduction. In a great mass destruction sequence, the much expected intro scene of 'Chitti' comes. As the cuts of these portions have been seen in both teaser and trailer, the entire sequence doesn't surprise me much. Towards the interval, the screenplay sets a point to expose the appearance of Akshay Kumar. The interval block is good. In the second half, the screenplay focuses on the flashback of Akshay Kumar. The flashback portion has been executed decently. After the flashback, the screenplay once again maintains a good flow. Later, the screenplay sets the conflict stronger than the previous one. So, the bad version of 'Chitti' (known as '2.0') gets introduced. After the introduction of 'Chitti 2.0', the screenplay becomes engaging as well as entertaining. The climax portion is none other than the expected stadium scene. The entire climax portion has been executed in such a way, which makes the audience to get a very different feel. In between the climax, the introduction of 'Kutty 3.0' is really superb. So, the climax portion is really convincing and mind blowing. The director conveys the message, just through a normal conversation at the end.

Main Negatives of the Film - The screenplay execution is the only issue for me, that too in the first half. I will not say that the entire execution is wrong. But, the introduction scene of 'Chitti' and Chitti's action to stop the mass destruction by the gigantic mobile bird doesn't impress me much. Even though the CG works are extraordinary in that, the usual impactful touch of Shankar is not seen there. So, the presentation of pre-interval block and interval block doesn't give me a great satisfaction. Akshay Kumar's flashback begins with a feel-good touch. Even though there are some stronger emotions, it doesn't create a strong impact because of the simple treatment. The flashback portion looks little bit lengthy. Even though the director has given scientific justification for Akshay Kumar's negative energy power, most of the audience will definitely take it up as an horror element only. So, it gets conveyed as Sci-Fi horror film to them.

Verdict
'2.0' is a very good Sci-Fi thriller from the director Shankar. His creativity stands at it's peak, which makes this different concept to be realistic in many moments. The quality output is the biggest positive for this film. 'Super Star' Rajinikanth and Akshay Kumar steals the show, with their screen presence and terrific performance. Still, I felt some issues in the presentation of the first half and also in Akshay Kumar's flashback. Anyway, the great grandeur visual experience has compensated it. So, this film deserves 'worth watchable once' category for the performance of the lead characters and also for Shankar & team's great hard work. As the technical aspect is very strong, watch the film in theatres for a great visual experience.

Note - Don't miss 'Endhira Logathu Sundhariye' song, which gets placed in the end credits. Else, you will also miss the post-credits scene.

Cut Short Rating - I'm not giving any rating for this film, as the film doesn't satisfy my expectations. Still, I suggest everyone to watch it in theatres for the great grandeur experience.
