Plot - Shivaa (Vijay Deverakonda) has completed his under graduate course. He comes to Hyderabad in search for a job. After seeing a cab advertisement, he decides to be a cab driver. Along with his friends, he buys 'Contessa' vintage car for the taxi driver job. He lives happily by earning more money, which helps his sister-in-law during her pregnancy. Later, the car gives some spooky troubles to him. What's the spooky mystery behind the vintage car forms the crux of the story.
Performance of the Star Cast - Vijay Deverakonda is as usual looking so stylish and cool. He delivers his usual best and convincing performance. In few scenes, he has also emoted well. Priyanka Jawalkar plays an usual heroine role for hero's romantic interest, in which she had a small importance towards the main plot. She makes a good debut in Tollywood, with a decent performance. Malavika Nair's characterisation plays a major part in the spooky mystery of that vintage car. She has completely justified her character, with a neat performance. Madhunandan and Vishnu have been the strong pillars behind the entertainment factor. Along with Vijay Deverakonda, they have given a complete laughter experience to the audience. Chammak Chandra also helps them in the pre-climax portion. Ravi Prakash and Kalyani have played the supporting characters in the film. Their characters have a strong importance in the climax portion. Ravi Varma has played his part neatly, in which his characterisation gives a clear picture about the spooky mystery. Shiju and Uttej have done their negative roles decently. Yamuna have done her part well.
Technical Works - Sujith Sarang's cinematography is really excellent, in which his visuals are so cool and catchy. Sreejith Sarang's editing looks sharp and crisp, with sleek cuts. His cuts doesn't have any abrupt finishing and it helps the screenplay to maintain a good flow. Jakes Bejoy's songs are really nice. 'Maate Vinadhuga' song is everyone's favourite, which has been visualized beautifully. His background score is really superb, which elevates the horror-suspense elements in a good way.
Director's Involvement with the Script - After watching the official trailer of 'Taxiwaala', the film's idea reminds me about Nayanthara's horror film 'DORA'. Even though the storyline is very similar to it, 'Taxiwaala' is little bit different from that. The screenplay pattern also reminds me about 'DORA' in few portions. But, Director Rahul Sankrityan's presentation and his scientific concept behind the mystery gives a clear picture to my comparison thoughts. Director Rahul has to be appreciated for making the entertainment factor very strong. Just because of that, the audience doesn't get a bored feel. He places the commercial elements in such a way, without disturbing the main track. So, this makes the screenplay to be very entertaining from the beginning to end.
Screenplay Execution - In the first half, the film opens with a decent start. After the title card, the screenplay gets a good starting point for the entertainment factor. With good humour, the screenplay maintains a neat flow and makes a good connect with the audience. Vijay Deverakonda's taxi life has been executed well, by introducing the romance track along with it. In between, the film touches with a small emotional bonding between Vijay Deverakonda and Ravi Prakash - Kalyani pair. The spooky mystery gets introduced at a point. From there, the suspense factor makes the screenplay interesting. The interval point is little bit predictable, but it promises a good ride in the second half. In the second half, the screenplay maintains the same entertaining flow in the initial stage. After untying the knot behind the vintage car's mystery, the screenplay pace is little bit slow only. Still, the backstory is really convincing one. Later, the screenplay once again starts to entertain the audience strongly. The pre-climax portion is very hilarious. The climax portion looks usual only, with the same action. Still, it doesn't disappoint us much and the finishing emotional touch is not bad.
Main Negatives of the Film - Even though the flashback portion is good, the slow pace makes us to get a feel of lengthy duration. As the negative roles doesn't have a strong characterisation, the execution of the conflict looks simple only. Few logical loopholes are seen here and there. The emotions behind Ravi Prakash - Kalyani pair could have been more stronger. The predictable factor plays a game in few parts.
Verdict
'Taxiwaala' is a very good entertainer in recent times. The screenplay execution makes the audience to get entertained completely. With a good humour, the entertainment factor stays very strong. Except few flaws, the film will not disappoint us. While coming out of the theatre, we will really get a feel that this taxi ride is really worth. This film deserves 'worth watchable once' category for Vijay Deverakonda's cool screen presence and also for a decent entertainment. Enjoy this pakka entertaining ride with your family and friends in theatres.
