Plot - Durai Ayya (Rajkiran) gets approval from the higher officials to conduct 'Vettai Karuppa Kovil Thiruvizha', which has been banned for 7 years. The reason behind this ban is Pechi (Varalaxmi Sarathkumar) and her family members. She wants to take revenge on Anbu (Hari Krishnan), for her husband's death (Kabali Vishwanth). But, Durai Ayya takes care of him. She plans to kill Anbu during the 7-day Thiruvizha, where she lost her husband. Balu (Vishal) comes to his native place from abroad, to be a part in this Thiruvizha along with his father Durai Ayya. How Balu saves Anbu from Pechi's revenge forms the crux of the story.

'Sandakozhi 2' is the sequel of Super-Hit Film 'Sandakozhi', which released in the year '2005'. This sequel is directed by N.Lingusamy. 'Sandakozhi 2' is said to be Vishal's 25th film in his career.

Performance of the Star Cast - Vishal delivers a neat performance and he looks very energetic. He steals the show very easily in action sequences. Rajkiran delivers his usual best performance and he still looks terrific in this age. Keerthy Suresh suits well for that 'village-based girl' character. She just comes as a romantic interest of Vishal. In the given space, she gives her decent performance. Varalaxmi Sarathkumar plays the main negative role in the film. The rage for her husband's death and her revenge plan looks good. She delivers a convincing performance. Still, her vengeance could have been more stronger. Hari Krishnan has a very good role, as his character only sets the conflict. His innocence works well for an extent. Even though his performance is not good like his previous films, he gives his best to his character 'Anbu'. Arjai and Hareesh Peeradi comes as a support for Varalaxmi in the film. As usual, they have given their best to the negative roles. Munishkanth makes us to laugh for few of his dialogues. Lal, who played the negative role in 'Sandakozhi', makes a funny cameo in this sequel. His negative role in the first part was so superb. His cameo is the only interlink, used in this sequel. His cameo could have been treated in a way. But Lingusamy shows in a very funny way, which doesn't create a great impact. All the other actors have done their part very well.

Technical Works - K.A.Sakthivel's cinematography is really excellent, in which his visuals shows the entire 'Thiruvizha' in a very lively manner. K.L.Praveen's editing looks sleek and neat. His editing maintains the screenplay pace in a very good level. As usual, Yuvan Shankar Raja's songs are good and it gels well with the rural backdrop. 'Kambathu Ponnu' and 'Sengarattan Paraiyulla' songs are my favourites. His background score is really superb, which helps to elevate the main action sequences.

Director's Involvement with the Script - Director N.Lingusamy makes a comeback through 'Sandakozhi 2', after the great failure of his previous flick 'Anjaan'. This time, he doesn't give a chance to make his calculations, to go wrong. He has given his complete best, to provide a good entertainment to the family audience. He gives importance to 'Vettai Karuppa Kovil Thiruvizha', as the entire film is completely dependent on it. Through many sequences, he gives a great 'Thiruvizha' experience to the audience. He shows the sentiments and traditions of those villages, in a very convincing way. His screenplay execution is good. Still, it gets backfired at a stage.

Screenplay Execution - In the first half, the film opens with a very good start. Karthi's narration helps to know about 'Thiruvizha' and the reason behind the revenge of Varalaxmi. After 15-20 minutes, Vishal makes his entry. From there, the screenplay becomes engaging. In between, the action sequences entertains the audience. The romance track between Vishal and Keerthy Suresh looks good for an extent. The pre-interval block has been executed well, where the two different action sequences takes place at that point. The interval block looks good. In the second half, the screenplay takes more time to create an interest. Later, the screenplay maintains the same good flow. Towards the climax, the screenplay takes the predictability flow. The climax is not bad, but still it doesn't look so terrific like the first part climax.

Main Negatives of the Film - In few parts, the dialogues are not so convincing. Just because of the usual cliches, the screenplay moves in a very predictable way. In few parts, the screenplay flow doesn't have a proper balance of the romance track and revenge track. The screenplay execution looks decent in the first half. When it comes to the second half, the screenplay doesn't create a strong interest in the beginning. The screenplay comes back to it's good flow from the mid of the second half. But, the placement of 'Sengarattan Paraiyulla' song suddenly spoils the flow. From there, the screenplay loses it's engaging factor. Lal's cameo appearance only confirms that this film is a proper sequel. Other than that, there are no other reference from the first part. This creates a confusion that whether it is a proper sequel or new plot in the beginning. It also creates logical questioning. The battle between Vishal and Varalaxmi in the climax could have been more better.

Verdict
'Sandakozhi 2' is an average commercial entertainer, in which the usual revenge plot takes a different angle only through 'Thiruvizha' backdrop. Director Lingusamy tries to present it in an entertaining way and it works well for an extent. The screenplay execution in the second half has some issues. If the director concentrated more on that, this sequel would have been more convincing. This film deserves 'watchable once' category. Go and watch it with your family, without much expectations. This film will provide a great 'Thiruvizha' experience to the audience. So, it will easily attract 'B' & 'C' centre audience.

Cut Short Rating - 6.8/10
