Plot - Siva (a) Sivamalai (Pa.Vijay) runs an antique shop along with his uncle. He is also an sculptor. The owner of AMD Jewellers gets kidnapped suddenly. TN Police Commissioner seeks the help of private detective agent 'Aavudaiyappan' (Bhagyaraj). The owner's close friends also gets kidnapped and killed brutally. They all gets killed near Lord Shiva's different temples in India. How Siva gets connected in this case and what happens next forms the crux of the story.

'Aaruthra' is a revenge thriller directed by Pa.Vijay, in which he plays the lead role. This film is based on recent 'Child Abuse' crimes.

Performance of the Star Cast - Pa.Vijay delivers his best to justify his character well. His emotions work well in the 'Child Abuse' portions. Bhagyaraj's characterisation becomes serious towards the interval only. He gives his best in the investigation scenes. SA Chandrasekhar comes in the flashback portion. He plays his part decently. Yuvashri delivers a convincing performance, in which she plays as a victim of child abuse. When she faces that problem and struggling to share about it with her parents & brother, her emotions portrays the pain and fear of the victim clearly. Meghali and Dakshita Kumaria gives their best in the given small space. Motta Rajendran's humour doesn't make the audience to laugh for it. His romantic portion is completely unnecessary. Joe Malloori gives his best for the negative shade role. YG Mahendran's performance is not upto the mark. All the other actors have done their part well.

Technical Works - B.L.Sanjay's cinematography is good, in which visuals have a rich feel. San Lokesh's editing looks good only in few portions. In most of the portions, his cuts have an abrupt finish. He should have concentrated more to avoid scene continuity errors. The director should have guided him correctly to avoid this major issue. His editing is not good like his previous works. Vidyasagar's songs are not so attractive. 'Chellama Chellam' song is not bad. His background score looks good only in few parts. To finish the film in a very low budget, the quality of the CG works have been made very poorly. The green matte can be used in few portions. But, the entire film have been shot only with green matte except few portions.

Director's Involvement with the Script - Director Pa.Vijay's intention to create awareness about child abuse crimes is really good. He tries to explain the pain of a child, who faces that trouble. How the well-known people becomes the devil to our child and how they deceives our belief has been shown well. How the punishment should be cruel to them is also shown. In his previous film 'Strawberry', he has shown the causes of 'carelessness of education system' and how a child becomes a victim of it. Even though he treats it with commercial elements, an emotional connect and the focus towards the plot is seen in that film. Likewise, he treats this film also in a commercial way only. The commercial treatment is the main issue in this film. In the first half, he focuses on some unnecessary elements. He doesn't frame the characters strongly. His writing looks good only as a paper work. When it comes to execution part, the presentation doesn't look impressive.

Screenplay Execution - In the first half, the film with a decent start. Later, the film takes time to introduce the lead characters. The screenplay has been focused on many unnecessary elements and it goes in a flow without creating an interest. In between, the seriousness of the 'Child Abuse Crimes' comes as a relief. Towards the interval, the film completely focuses on the plot. The interval block is highly expected one only. In the second half, the film maintains a good flow in the initial stage. Later, our interest once again gets deviated. From the flashback portion, the screenplay becomes little bit engaging by handling the emotions strongly. The main child abuse portion doesn't create a big impact, but we will feel pity little bit. The climax portion ends with an usual revenge scene.

Main Negatives of the Film - The commercial treatment is the great blunder of this film. This completely destroys the seriousness of the main plot in many scenes. In the first half, the importance given for unnecessary elements could have given more to 'Child Abuse Crimes'. The content is a relating one to the current situation, in which the director creates a good awareness about it. But, his presentation makes his entire work to go wrong. Just because of this, the audience doesn't get a strong impact. The screenplay execution faces many continuity issues. I don't know how the director fails to notice it.

Verdict
'Aaruthra' is a below average thriller, in which Pa.Vijay fails to convey the message strongly. His commercial treatment completely ruins the entire first half. In the second half, he focuses on the main plot and he tries to give his best. The flashback portion and few punishment scenes convinces us a little bit. The director could have concentrated more to make a strong emotional connect with the audience. Even though he has a strong message, his presentation doesn't give a complete satisfaction. So, this film deserves 'watchable once' category for Pa.Vijay's intention to create awareness about 'Child Abuse' crimes.

Cut Short Rating - 6/10 (Only For Awareness About 'Child Abuse' Content)
