Plot - Akash is the son of Bhaskar, who is a high-tempered person. Shivani is the daughter of Anu, who has a soft nature. Both of them are single parent. How the kids try to unite Bhaskar and Anu to form a good family, and what comes as an obstacle in that forms the crux of the story.
'Bhaskar Oru Rascal' is an official remake of Mamooty's Superhit Malayalam Film 'Bhaskar The Rascal', directed by Siddique. He also directs the tamil version of this film. In this film, Arvind Swami, Amala Paul, Master Raghavan and Baby Nainika plays the lead roles. After many postponements, 'Bhaskar Oru Rascal' released finally on 17th May.
Performance of the Star Cast - Arvind Swami carries off the attitude of a high-tempered person in an extraordinary way and it suits him very well. His screen presence is the biggest plus to this simple plot. Amala Paul delivers her best performance. Baby Nainika looks cute and she delivers a neat performance. Master Raghavan delivers a naturalistic performance and he expresses the emotions of a son in a good way. Robo Shankar, Soori and Ramesh Khanna tries to entertain the audience with some humour stuffs. But, it works only in few portions. Aftab Shivdasani gives a good justification for his character. Nasser, Siddique, Nikesha Patel and all the other actors have done their part well.
Technical Works - Vijay Ulaganath's cinematography looks nice. K.R.Gowrishankar's editing is good, with sharp cuts. Amresh Ganesh's songs are not bad. 'Amma I Love You' song gives a good feel. His background score works in some parts.
Director's Involvement with the Script - Director Siddique is really known for some of his good Tamil films. The general audience highly prefers his films, for a complete laughter-out-loud experience. In this film, the humour content works only in few parts. Siddique makes few changes for the taste of the Tamil audience. But, it doesn't create a big impact. His writing looks weak in few portions, which he could have concentrated more.
Screenplay Execution - In the first half, the film opens with a murder scene and then it moves forward to the life of those parents and their kids. The film comes into a good track after few minutes. From there, the film moves in a smooth flow with some small deviations. The interval block looks good and convincing. In the second half, the screenplay falls flat and it takes some time to get into the engaging track. Later, the film travels in some different tracks, which makes the audience to feel like a pointless flow. But, it doesn't create any confusion. Towards the climax, the film goes in a good flow. The climax of the film is not bad.
Main Negatives of the Film - The emotional connect between the parents and their kids should have been more stronger. The CGI Works for the action sequences is really worst, which makes it to compare with some unbelievable stunts. Some connectivity issues can be seen in few scenes. As the second half is not so convincing, the film makes the general audience to come out of the theatre with some disappointments. The target audience of the film is family people and kids. So, they may enjoy the film.
Verdict
'Bhaskar Oru Rascal' is a family entertainer, in which Siddique should have tried some different elements to convince the entire audience. The humour content works in parts. The emotional impact could have been more stronger. Still, the family people and kids will feel comfortable with it. So, this film deserves 'worth-watchable once' for Arvind Swami's screen presence and for the good performance of the child artists.
Cut Short Rating - 6.8/10
