Plot - Tulasi becomes pregnant because of Krishna. Their parents decide to abort the child for their future. After five years, Tulasi and Krishna gets married. Diya, the aborted child comes to take revenge on the people for separating her from her mother. How did Diya succeed in her revenge forms the crux of the story.

'Diya' is a bilingual horror thriller directed by AL Vijay, released in Tamil and Telugu (Titled as 'Kanam') simultaneously. This is Sai Pallavi's first Tamil film. Initially, the film is titled as 'Karu'. But due to some issues, the team changed the title as 'Diya' and released it on friday.

Performance of the Star Cast - Sai Pallavi shines with her natural beauty in every frame, and she delivers a very convincing performance through her emotions. Naga Shaurya struggles to express his emotions. Still, he tries to give his best in his portions. Baby Veronika Arora looks so cute, and also she delivers a neat performance. RJ Balaji comes an police inspector in the film. His humour track looks like a force fitting to the film. Still, it creates a laugh among the audience. He gives a good justification for his characterisation in the second half. The other actors in the film have done their job well.

Technical Works - Nirav Shah always give his best visuals for AL Vijay's film. He repeats the same in this film too. Anthony's editing makes a good flow for the film, but in some places it goes slightly wrong. Sam CS gives his good music for 'Konjaali' song. He really deserves a great appreciation for giving a terrific background score, which increases the intensity of many emotional and revenge scenes.

Director's Involvement with the Script - Director AL Vijay tries something different in his films. Likewise, he brings a new concept of revenge plot in this film. He makes the duration of the film so short. He doesn't give so much importance to the songs. He gives his best in the direction and screenplay execution, to make it more intriguing and also to make us emotional. But, it works in parts. He fails to focus on the logical loopholes, which disturbs the flow here and there. His message against the 'abortion' is really good. But, it creates a small impact only.

Screenplay Execution - In the first half, the film enters into the plot from the first scene itself. Later it takes some time to get into the revenge track. From that point, the film maintains a good level of interest among the audience. The interval point is really superb, with Sai Pallavi's emotional act. In the second half, the film has some issues and it slows down our interest for few minutes. Later, it picks up and comes back to the right track. The climax portion looks unbelievable, but it gives us a 'not bad' feel.

Main Negatives of the Film - Even though the duration is so short, the film looks lengthy because of the slow screenplay. Many logical questioning arises here and there, which makes the film slightly disturbed. Something goes missing in this AL Vijay's film. So, we won't get a complete satisfaction. But, he doesn't makes us to get bored with the film. In that way, the film gets saved from the danger zone.

Verdict
'Diya' is a good horror emotional thriller from AL Vijay, which gives a small impact on the 'abortion' content. Even though the revenge plot looks unique, AL Vijay should have focused on the screenplay execution to make us more convincing. When coming out of the theatre, we won't say that the film is boring or bad. So, this film deserves a 'worth-watchable once' for the unique revenge plot and also for Sai Pallavi's strong emotional performance.

Cut Short Rating - 7.2/10
