The village is ruled by President Garu, who plays in the people's life by using their debts. Kumar Babu, the brother of Chitti Babu wants to make a change in that village. How the brothers succeed in their attempt forms the crux of the story.
Performance of the Star Cast - Ram Charan delivers a splendid performance as Chitti Babu and expresses his emotions very naturally. He impresses the audience with his mass appearance in the action sequences, with a good dialogue delivery. Aadhi Pinisetty plays a supporting role in this film and he delivers a solid performance with his natural act. The brother bonding between them works very well. Samantha Akkineni delivers her best in the given space. Anasuya Bharadwaj delivers her best with neat justification to her character. Jagapathi Babu delivers his usual style of villainism and he scores well in his portions. Prakash Raj gives his usual best performance and his characterisation has a strong importance in the second half. The other actors in the film have done their part well. Pooja Hegde comes in 'Jigelu Rani' song and impresses the audience.
Technical Works - Rathnavelu's cinematography gives a life to 'Rangasthalam' village, with catchy visuals. Navin Nooli's editing looks good with sleek cuts. As Ram Charan is suffered by 'partial-deaf' problem, the sounding in the film is properly utilized. Devi Sri Prasad gives his usual best in the songs and background score. All the songs in the film will surely attract the audience, with good music beats.
Director's Involvement with the Script - Director Sukumar has really done a great job, in which his direction and making style looks neat. The entertainment factor in the film stays strong and gels well with the audience's mindset. The commercial packaging looks good in some parts. The politics behind the 'Village President' post is shown neatly. In some places, it looks unnecessary and also it drags the content to a great extent. The glamour element is highly used in the first half, which satisfies some audience. But, it could have been avoided.
Screenplay Execution - In both the half, the screenplay doesn't gives a boring feel to the audience. In the first half, the film opens with a good start by introducing the lead characters. The director follows step by step procedure to get into the main track. After the entry of Aadhi, the film steps into the plot slightly. Later, the film focuses on romance track and it handles the major conflict from the pre-interval block. The interval block is a good one. In the second half, the film moves on a right track along with small deviations. After 'Jigelu Rani' song, the film focuses completely towards the conflict. The climax scene looks convincing with an expected twist.
Main Negatives of the Film - The director fails to give explanation for some scenes, which looks like an incomplete finishing to that. He gives his best to satisfy the audience within 3 hrs duration. But, 180 minutes duration for this script is not necessary. In second half, the screenplay looks like slightly dragged. Some logical loopholes are also there. As the entertainment factor makes a strong connect with the audience, they doesn't feel these flaws as a great blunder.
Verdict
'Rangasthalam' is a complete commercial entertainer, which is not a new one to the audience. But, the film will make the audience to stay connected with it from the beginning to end. Some flaws are there, which can be neglected to enjoy this masala entertainer. So, this film deserves 'worth watchable once' category, which really fulfill the commercial audience to the core.
Note - The duration of the film is 180 minutes. The audience, who are not comfortable with the lengthy duration must have some patience to get involved into the film. Director Sukumar won't disappoint you, as he handles the screenplay without any boring element.
Cut Short Rating - 7.7/10
