Plot - Selvam is a photographer who runs 'National Studios'. Once Selvam was beaten by a local goon 'Vellaiyappan' in front of public. So, he decides to avoid wearing slipper, till he take revenge on him. What happens next forms the crux of the story.
'Nimir' is an official remake of the Superhit Malayalam film 'Maheshinte Prathikaaram', released in the year 2016. Fahadh Faasil played the main lead role in the originial version.
Performance of the Star Cast - Udhayanidhi Stalin delivered a very naturalistic performance and his improvement is getting increased day by day. Samuthrakani shared a very less screen space in this film, still he gave his best. M.S.Bhaskar Sir delivered a solid performance and scored well in every scene. Parvathi Nair delivered a neat performance in the given space. Namitha Pramod made a very good debut and she gave her best performance. Mahendran Sir's characterisation was handled in a very simple manner, yet he justified his character. Karunkaran scored well with his usual humour stuffs.
Technical Works - As Udhayanidhi Stalin comes as an photographer, the photography touch was utilized very well in every scene of the film. N.K.Ekambaram's cinematography was so superb, where his visuals will give you a very realistic feel of those rural backdrop. Ayyappan Nair's editing work was good. The songs composed by the two music directors were so pleasant to hear, with a great soul. The background score will make us to notice in some scenes.
Director's Involvement with the Script - Director Priyadarshan is one of the great directors in Indian Cinema. In this film, he tried to present the plot of the original version with respect to the taste of tamil audience. But, it worked out only in some parts. The detailing work in every scene was excellent. We were able to get a feel of watching the Malayalam film in some scenes. He should have focused more to convince all the set of audience. Some sarcastic dialogues used in the film were nice.
Screenplay Execution - In the beginning, the film takes off with a very good start by giving a clear idea about the village's nature and it's people. After that, the screenplay was in a very good flow with some good situational humour. Later on, the screenplay becomes intense towards the main track. The interval block was not bad. In the second half, the screenplay focused on the romance track, which was utilized to link with the main track. Then it took more time to get into the revenge scene. The climax will create a very less impact, as it was handled in a very simple manner.
Main Negatives - The adaptation from the original version to the taste of tamil audience doesn't gel well. Because, some people were inconvenient with the flavour of the film. The film has a very good experimentation, but it lacks in creating an interest to those people. So, the film satisfied only a few set of audience.
Verdict
'Nimir' is a very good experimental drama, but the screenplay execution will not satisfy the entire audience. Some people will love the film for the good experimentation. The remaining people will face some struggles to get convinced with the plot. So, this film deserves a 'worth watchable once' for the natural performance of the star cast and also for the beautiful vision.
Important Note - You should have some special interest and patience to get involved with the film. Else, you will not get convinced with it.
Cut Short Rating - 7/10 (For Good Experimentation)
