Plot - Mathiazhagan and Arivazhagan are brothers, who fall in love with the sisters of the same family. How Arivazhagan's love creates a trouble in Mathiazhagan's love and how he overcome it forms the crux of the story.
Performance of the Star Cast - Vemal is always comfort with the rural scripts. So, he delivered his decent and best performance without any high level built-ups. Anandhi looked cute in every frame and she gave her best in the given space. Karthik Kumar and Chandini delivered a good performance in their portions. Vamsi Krishna and Abhishek Vinod delivered their usual style of villainism. Prabhu Sir and Jayaprakash Sir did their part well. Saranya Ma'am and Neelima Rani scored well in their portions, especially in a humour scene. Robo Shankar will make us to laugh in some scenes, with his usual stuffs. Yogi Babu and 'Bigg Boss' Julie made their decent cameo in the climax. The other actors did their part well.
Technical Works - P.G.Muthaiah's cinematography work synced well with this rural script and the visuals were so good. Gopi Krishna's editing work was neat with clear cuts, but the blinking transition used for every action sequence could have been avoided. The songs composed by Jakes Bejoy were not so impressive. In some scenes, his background score highly elevates the mass appeal of Vemal and also in the family sentiments.
Director's Involvement with the Script - Director Boopathy Pandian is once known for his commercial films with some interesting elements. But, he didn't add any new elements into this script. He followed the same cliches and formula of a rural script. But, he tried to present it comfortable for the audience, which works in parts. The family sentiments worked out in some scenes. The dialogues could have been more crispier.
Screenplay Execution - As this film contains the usual elements, the screenplay flow goes in a predictable manner only. In the first half, the introduction scene of Vemal and the separate humour portions of Robo Shankar maintained a decent flow. The romance track doesn't look good, as it slightly disturbs the flow. Later on, the action sequence in the middle and the interval block increased the interest level of the audience. In the second half, some family sentiments and humour portions once again maintained a good flow. Towards the end, the screenplay flow was not that much good. The climax portion had a balance of both sentiments and comedy, with a happy ending.
Main Negatives of the Film - As the film goes in a predictable manner, some may feel discomfort with the screenplay execution. Some songs in the film could have been avoided, especially a pre-climax song. Because, it highly disturbed this usual entertainer. In some scenes, the separate humour tracks could have been edited. Because it looked as a force placement in the film. The director should have tried some new elements into his usual family entertainer, to make it more entertaining.
Verdict
'Mannar Vagaiyara' is an usual family entertainer, stuffed with all usual cliches. The family sentiments and humour worked out well in some parts. Because of the usual treatment, some may feel bad with the film. So, it deserves 'decent one-time watch' for a good family entertainer experience, with less expectations. The film is highly targeted for the B and C centre audience.
Cut Short Rating - 6.2/10
