Plot - Selvam works for the police department and taps phone calls of higher officials to get some secrets. Selvam and Agalya are husband and wife. How all the problems gets sorted out forms the crux of the story.
In the year 2006, many superb tamil released and deserved a special place in our hearts like Pudhupettai, Vettaiyadu Vilayadu, Varalaru, Imsai Arasan 23aam Pulikesi etc. Among those films, Thiruttu Payale was also released in the same year in which Jeevan, Sonia Agarwal, Malavika, Abbas and Vivek played the lead roles. The film was directed by Susi Ganeshan. He directed only 4 tamil films and 1 hindi film. In that 4 films, Thiruttu Payale set a great benchmark in his film career. The success of this film made him to direct a sequel for it in a new background with a new cast. The teaser and trailer (including Director's Cut) got a good response from the audience. The film finally released yesterday.
Performance of the Star Cast - Bobby Simha made a great comeback in this film and delivered a very good performance as protagonist. He perfectly fitted to that character. Prasanna played the antagonist and delivered his villainsim in a very terrific and smart way. He deeply went into the skin of the character and shown the different shades of arrogance in a very good manner. He utilized the scope given to him and stole the show. Amala Paul played as a lovely wife of Bobby Simha. Her characterisation was so stronger and maintained a very good level of performance in both romantic and emotional sequences. Director Susi Ganeshan played a detective role in this film, which was good in some parts and had a connectivity with some scenes. Muthuraman Sir of 'Vazhakku Enn 18/9' fame maintained a decent performance throughout the film and had a good role towards the climax. Shalini Shammu, Adams and Soundar Rajan had done their part well.
Technical Works - The cinematography work by Chelladurai was nice, in which the simple visuals looked too good. The editing work by Raja Mohammed was good and could have been better in some cuts of the film. 'Nee Paarkum Paarvai' and 'Neenda Naal' songs were pleasant to hear. The background score was good only in some parts. The live sound recording used in this film was really good. The similarity between the first and second part of 'Thiruttu Payale' is nothing but the secret relationships. But the content and the screenplay of 'Thiruttu Payale 2' was completely different from the first part.
Director's Involvement with the Script - The director researched a lot for this storyline. So, he was able to give a strong content in an interesting manner. He made a great comeback after the film 'Kanthasamy'. He maintained the flow of the storyline in a very low pace. But, the screenplay of the film will not make us bored and it was handled in an interesting manner. The tapping of phone calls and exposing the corrupted people's life was really good. Some scenes will really make us fear for the development of technology. The content was not handled in a spoon feed of the ill effects of technology. The writing of Susi Ganeshan is really appreciable.
Screenplay Execution - In the first half, the screenplay gets into the main track after few minutes. After that, the flow of the storyline was very good and maintained the same level of track till the interval block. The interval block was really good with a superb twist. The latter half began in a very good manner. In between, some lagging issues took place and makes our interest low in those portions. Due to the lagging issues, the intense in the second half gets low at an extent. But still, the film managed to hold the interest of the audience because of the strong content. The climax of the film was really good. But still, I felt that something could have been better. The screenplay looked very lengthy in both the half as the screenplay travels in a slow pace only. Except these flaws, this thriller is a very good and different one in recent times with a strong content in it.
Verdict:
A very good thriller from Susi Ganeshan in which the lengthier and prolonged screenplay for this content could have been avoided. This film will really make us fear for the usage of technology, especially for the social media addicts. This thriller deserves a must watch once category for the strong performance by the lead actors.
Cut Short Rating - 8.3/10
