Reputed Producer CV Kumar made his directorial debut with 'Maayavan', which is a sci-fi based mystery crime thrilller. After several delays, the movie got released today with good expectations.

Performance of the Star Cast - Every lead role had a good scope to perform in the given space. Sundeep Kishan played a police officer, where he delivered a great and justified performance. Lavanya Tripathi was utilized well with the core of the plot and she delivered a good performance. Jackie Shroff scored with his usual performance in the second half. Daniel Balaji delivered his neat performance in his own style. Jayaprakash Sir gave his best performance. Bagavathi Perumal played a character role and scored well in his portions. Amarendran Sir gave his best in the limited space.

Technical Works - Gopi Amarnath's cinematography gave a good support to the content throughout the film with nice visuals. Leo John Paul's editing was very good. Ghibran really doing a great job in recent times. His background score gave a good intensity to the plot.

Director's Involvement with the Script - CV Kumar made a good directorial debut with a strong research for the plot. His treatment of crime thriller with modern science was really good and worked well. The content cannot be said very unique, but he presented it to the audience in a unique manner. Nalan Kumarasamy took the credits of screenplay execution.

Screenplay Execution - In the beginning, the chasing scene used for the title card was nice. After that, the screenplay took some time to get into the core. But the screenplay was in a good speed without bored feel. When the screenplay gets into the track, it becomes very intriguing. It also broke some predictable scenes. The interval block was good. In the second half, the pace of the intriguing screenplay was on the right track without any deviation. Towards the climax, some usual treatment of screenplay and predictability made the engaging factor little bit low. The ending of the film was also good.

Main Negatives - There are some flaws in this film, which cannot be said as a great blunder. Some scenes in the first half cannot be considered as unnecessary, but disturbed the flow. Some logical errors were seen in the unusual plot. In few scenes of the second half, the usual pattern was followed which slows down the interest. But, these won't make you dislike the film. You will get fulfilled at the end.

Verdict
Maayavan is an usual crime thriller with the treatment of sci-fi in recent times. If the director concentrated on the above flaws, the thriller would have been more convincing. Still, it deserves a must watch for the engaging screenplay and for the performance of lead actors.

Cut Short Rating - 8.6/10
