Plot - Gautham (Harish Kalyan) and Tara (Shilpa Manjunath) are in love with each other. Gautham easily gets into anger even for a small issue. As he is unable to control his anger, he undergoes so much of problems in his love relationship. Did Gautham and Tara succeed in their love?
Positives
Harish Kalyan delivers a strong performance, in which he balances the 'anger' and 'love' emotions of his character 'Gautham' perfectly. Through his character, how the excess of unconditional love will make a person to take wrong decisions sometimes has been shown clearly. And, he has expressed it neatly. When it comes to action sequences, his rage works gels well with the violent punches, that he gives. Shilpa Manjunath of 'Kaali' fame, has delivered a convincing and an equivalent performance to Harish Kalyan. Her character has been written in a stronger way. She has balanced the emotions of her character 'Tara' in an elegant way. The chemistry between Harish and Shilpa looks good. Bala Saravanan and Ma Ka Pa Anand have scored well with their one-liners, in the given space for humour. The other supporting characters have done their part well. Kavin Raj's cinematography work is really excellent, in which he has given a visual treat to the audience. Bavan Sreekumar's editing looks sleek. Sam CS's songs are really good. 'Kannamma' and 'Yenno Penne' songs are my favourite one. His background score is really extraordinary, which elevates both the action and romance elements in a convincing way. Director Ranjit Jeyakodi of 'Puriyaatha Puthir' fame, has come up with a simple and usual romantic plot only. But, he presents it in a way, in which the current generation people can easily get related with it. He establishes the romance between Harish Kalyan and Shilpa Manjunath, after back to back violent action scenes. The point where the love blossom between them is superb. At an extent, how one's unconditional love will make it react badly to their partner has been shown well. His screenplay execution is really good in the first half. In the second half, his screenplay execution looks good in selected portions. The climax is simple only, in which the director has conveyed his point in a good way.
Negatives
The screenplay execution in the second half has some issues. In the second half, the director treats the romance between the pair in the usual way only. Even though he introduces the relationship conflicts in a convincing way, the film doesn't proceed to the next step. With a duration of 153 minutes, the first half gets ended within 60 minutes. As the duration of the second half is lengthy, the film tests patience with a few set of audience. Because of the usual romantic treatment, the interest shown towards the film becomes low at a point. Towards the climax portion, Harish Kalyan's love turns into hatred form. To show that, the director follows the usual pattern to show Harish Kalyan's hatred on Shilpa Manjunath. So, the placement of 'Yei Kadavule' song looks unnecessary. The director justifies the anger nature of 'Gautham' character, through an incident in his childhood portion. But, the effect of the childhood portion works only in selected portions. So, it creates less impact only. Due to these issues in the second half, the film will not convince everyone completely.
Verdict
'Ispade Rajavum Idhaya Raniyum' is a usual romantic entertainer, with a violent backdrop through Harish Kalyan's character. The performance of Harish Kalyan and Shilpa Manjunath is the major highlight of the film. Director Ranjit Jeyakodi's presentation is not bad. His screenplay execution in the first half is really enjoyable. But, the screenplay execution in the second half has some issues. If you have suffered great pain in your love relationship, you will have a strong connect with the film. This film deserves 'worth watchable once' category, for the strong performance of Harish Kalyan and Shilpa Manjunath. Watch it with your friends or lover (if you have).
