Plot - Thookudurai ('Thala' Ajith) and Niranjana (Nayanthara) are husband and wife, who has been blessed with a girl child named 'Shwetha' (Anikha). They both gets separated due to a small misunderstanding. So, Niranjana goes along with Shwetha to Mumbai, by getting promise from Thookudurai to not disturb in their life. After 10 years, he goes to Mumbai to bring them back to his village 'Koduvilarpatti'. There, he comes to know about a great threat to his daughter. How Thookudurai protects his daughter Shwetha and how he gets united with Niranjana forms the crux of the story.
'Viswasam' is a commercial entertainer, directed by Siva. For fourth time, Thala Ajith and Siva joins hands for this film. This film has released yesterday as 'Pongal 2019' release.
Performance of the Star Cast - 'Thala' Ajith delivers an excellent performance, in which his character 'Thookudurai' will be loved by all. His mass screen presence will make every Thala fan to scream and lose their throat. In both young and salt & pepper look, his charisma is really superb. He looks very effortless in action sequences, which makes it to look very terrific. When it comes to family sentiment portions, his emotions has really worked very well. Just because of that, the emotional connect gets stronger. As usual, Thala's dialogue delivery is very impressive. Nayanthara gets a good role, in which she has given her usual best for the character 'Niranjana'. The chemistry between Thala Ajith - Nayanthara works well. Anikha has played her part perfectly. Like 'Yennai Arinthaal', the father - daughter emotional bonding between Thala Ajith - Anikha looks so pleasing and impressive. Jagapathi Babu plays the main antagonist role. His character is not so stronger, but it suits well with the plot. He has delivered his convincing performance. Thambi Ramaiah and Robo Shankar comes as a good support for 'Thala' Ajith, throughout the film. Yogi Babu's portions are not bad. Vivek and Kovai Sarala have given their best in the small space. All the other actors have really given their complete support, by playing their part very well.
Technical Works - Vetri's cinematography is really excellent, in which his visuals are so catchy and colorful. He has shown both the rural and city portions, in a very attractive way. Ruben's editing looks crisp and sharp. His cuts helps to maintain the pace of screenplay, without making too racy or too slow. D.Imman's songs are really impressive. The songs such as 'Adchi Thooku', 'Kannaana Kanney' and 'Vaaney Vaaney' are my favourites. The visuals of 'Adchi Thooku' will make Thala fans to enjoy it to the core. His background score is really a great advantage. In action portions, he elevates it to next level through terrific score. Just because of his background score, the action scenes gives many goosebumps moments. When it comes to emotional portions, his background score is so touching and we will feel the emotions strongly.
Director's Involvement with the Script - After trying out a different attempt in 'Vivegam', Director Siva is once again back with 'Thala' Ajith in 'Viswasam', with a rural & urban mixed family entertainer. He has selected an usual storyline, in which father-daughter emotions has been used as a key role. His writing of 'Thookudurai' character is really stunning, in which his soft and arrogant nature makes a connect with both Thala fans and family audience. Through Nayanthara & Jagapathi Babu characters, he deals with few improper parenting issues. With a strong writing of family bonding, he easily impresses the family audience. As he balances those emotions in a right way, his treatment doesn't look dramatic. Apart from family emotions, he utilizes the mass elements of Thala in a proper way. Apart from few hero worship scenes, Siva has also given him a good space, to score as a performer. The dialogue writers of the film deserves an appreciation for good dialogues. In the screenplay execution, Siva has given his complete best to entertain the audience.
Screenplay Execution - In the first half, the film begins with a good start. Thala Ajith's introduction looks simple and majestic. Later, the film steps into the flashback portion. The screenplay entertains the audience initially. After few minutes, the screenplay completely focuses on the establishment of romance between Thala Ajith - Nayanthara. So, the screenplay takes some time to create a strong interest. At a point, the screenplay becomes engaging. Towards the interval, the screenplay gives a proper lead for the action element. The interval block is so powerful and massive, in which the rain fight scene and 'Peru Thookudurai' dialogue are the strong reason behind it. In the second half, the film maintains a good flow after 'Adchi Thooku' song . The screenplay makes a good emotional connect with the audience, through strong father-daughter emotions. Meanwhile, the screenplay entertains the audience with great action. Towards the climax, the screenplay focuses completely on emotions only. The climax portion has a small action, but the emotional treatment stands strong. The climax is really touching and convincing. The film ends with a good message to every parent.
Main Negatives of the Film - The logical loopholes are seen in many parts, still it's common in a commercial entertainer. So, we cannot much bother about it. In both the half, the humour content doesn't look much convincing. So, the director should have concentrated on it. In the first half, the establishment of romance between Thala Ajith - Nayanthara looks lengthy only. In between that track, the screenplay execution could have been little bit better. In the first half, the songs like 'Danga Danga' and 'Thalle Thillale doesn't get properly placed. Still, the director doesn't make us to feel bored of the content.
Verdict
'Viswasam' is really a perfect family entertainer for this Pongal, from Director Siva and team. 'Thala' Ajith's 'Thookudurai' character stays strong and his screen presence in every frame will be enjoyed by Thala fans. Director Siva has given importance for father-daughter sentiment, which helps the family audience to get connected easily. His emotional treatment also works very well. In the first half, the screenplay has some flaws. But, the second half has been executed in a very entertaining and emotional way. This makes us to come out of the theatre with complete satisfaction. So, this film deserves 'worth watchable once' category for 'Thala' Ajith's strong performance and also for strong father-daughter emotions. Watch it with your family in theatres. Thala fans will celebrate it happily.
