Plot - This film is based on the life of the great warrior 'Rani Laxmibai' (Original Name 'Manikarnika') of Jhansi. 'Rani Laxmibai' character has been played by Actress 'Kangana Ranaut'. This film deals mainly with Rani Laxmibai's fight against East India Company (during 1842-1857), who tries to conquer Jhansi.

Performance of the Star Cast - Kangana Ranaut really deserves a great appreciation for playing 'Rani Laxmibai' character in a very dignified and convincing way. Her dedication for 'Rani Laxmibai' character is really surprising. In every frame, she lives as 'Rani Laxmibai', by proving that she is only apt for that character. So, we are able to know about Rani Laxmibai's bravery through her screen presence. We can see a great fire in her eyes, which perfectly matches up with Rani Laxmibai's rage against British rule. She shows the stubbornness of 'Rani Laxmibai' in an elegant way. When dealing with mother shade of 'Rani Laxmibai', her emotions works well. On the whole, Kangana Ranaut has carried the entire film on her shoulder, which becomes the biggest strength in creating a powerful impact. Jisshu Sengupta plays 'Maharaja Gangadhar Rao' character, in which he has given his complete best to justify that role. Danny Denzongpa, Mishti Chakraborty, Ankita Lokhande and Atul Kulkarni comes as a great support for Kangana Ranaut, throughout the film. Other than that, all the other actors have played their part very well.

Technical Works - Kiran Deohans and VS Gnana Shekhar have handled the cinematography work. Their work is really good, by setting the tone of that period correctly. The war sequences have been captured in a good way. Rameshwar Bhagat and Suraj Jagtap have handled the editing work. Their editing looks sharp and crisp, without any improper cuts. They have helped to maintain the flow of this historic drama in a proper way. The songs composed by Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy doesn't gel well with Tamil lyrics. So, the songs are not much impressive. The background score composed by Sanchit Balhara and Ankit Balhara has helped in elevating the action sequences. Tamil dubbing is also good, which doesn't spoil the mood of this period drama. The CG works looks good only in few portions. In most of the portions, the quality of CG works doesn't have a great standard. So, we cannot say the making as an extraordinary one. Still, it doesn't look much worst.

Director's Involvement with the Script - Director Radha Krishna Jagarlamudi has given his complete best, to make the audience satisfied with his period drama. Kangana Ranaut has also directed this film, along with Krish. With a good combined effort, the directors have satisfied the needs of this historic drama in a good way. So, 'Rani Laxmibai' character gets well received by the audience. So, her strong valor gets registered in the minds of the audience. V.Vijeyandra Prasad's contribution towards the story & screenplay is really good. By setting the conflict perfectly, his screenplay execution creates a good curiosity towards the film. The screenplay pace has been maintained in a good way, which doesn't make the film duration to feel as very lengthy. So, the team effort doesn't go wrong in any way. Still, few flaws can be seen in their work.

Screenplay Execution - In the first half, the film begins with a decent start. The introduction scene of Kangana Ranaut is really good. After dealing with Rani Laxmibai's marriage chapter, the screenplay slowly enters into the engaging track. Later, the screenplay takes a good form. In between, few scenes gets applause from the audience, where the stubbornness of Rani Laxmibai has been shown convincingly. Towards the interval, the screenplay creates a good level of interest. The interval block is really superb, which creates a good expectations for the latter half. In the second half, the screenplay maintains a decent flow initially. When dealing with Rani Laxmibai's revoultion against British rule, the screenplay becomes completely intriguing. The action sequences has been shown in a very powerful way, which makes us to enjoy it in the edge of the seat. Towards the climax, the screenplay increases the towards the final war sequence. The final war sequence has been executed very well. So, the climax portion gives us a great impact about Rani Laxmibai's life.

Main Negatives of the Film - The songs has been used mostly as a montage only. Still, 'Dankila' song ('Nanjukku' in Tamil) could have been avoided, which comes as a speed breaker only. In the first half, few portions between Rani Laxmibai - Gangadhar Rao could have been treated well. Rani Laxmibai's marriage life has been shown in a decent way only. Still, few of them may feel those portions as an elongated one. The entire team has really contributed heavily in creating a stronger impact. When it comes to making, the film loses it's standard quality in few portions. So, the film doesn't give a great experience like other period dramas. Other than that, the strong impact will make us to forgive these flaws.

Verdict
'Manikarnika: The Queen Of Jhansi' is really a very good historical action drama, in which Kangana Ranaut's performance makes the film to reach it's peak. Her dedication towards 'Rani Laxmibai' character, makes the entire audience to know about her bravery and love for her motherland. It will really help in motivating the women, to be strong at any situation. Despite of flaws, the strong impact will make the audience to come out of the theatre, with a complete satisfaction. So, this film deserves 'must watchable once' category for Kangana Ranaut's effortless performance. Watch it with your family and friends in theatres.
