Plot - Thiru (Prabhudeva) loves Sara (Nikki Galrani). They both are getting married. Thiru's friend 'Dubai Raja' (Vivek Prasanna) arrives in Chennai, to attend his marriage. He shows a video to Thiru, which conveys Sara's character in a bad way. So, Thiru takes a wrong decision. He records a video, in which he scolds Sara and her family. After recording, he sends that video through Whatsapp to her. Later, he comes to know about the truth. What happens next and how that whatsapp message leads to many troubles forms the crux of the story.

'Charlie Chaplin 2' is a sequel to 'Charlie Chaplin', which released in the year 2001. 'Charlie Chaplin' became a super-hit, because of the strong humour content. This sequel doesn't have any connect with the first part.

Performance of the Star Cast - Prabhudeva delivers his usual convincing performance, by entertaining the audience decently. During the attempts of deleting that video, he makes us to laugh for his few funny expressions. In the action sequences, he has given his complete best. His dance movements are as usual good. Nikki Galrani plays an usual heroine role, where she has played her part well. Adah Sharma gives a decent justification for her character. Vivek Prasanna delivers a neat performance, where he provides a consolation to the audience with his humour content. Aravind Akash and Chandana Raj have played their supporting characters neatly. Prabhu delivers his usual best performance in the given space. Ravi Marya's character has a major play in the climax portion, where he has delivered a convincing performance. Luthfudeen's character is just like a small cameo appearance only. Still, he gives his best. All the other actors have given their decent support throughout the film.

Technical Works - Soundar Rajan's cinematography work is really good, in which his visuals creates a decent attraction. G.Sasikumar's editing looks sleek. In few portions, his cuts could have been better. Amrish's songs are not bad. 'Chinna Machan' song is already a great hit. The songs like 'I Want To Marry You Mama' and 'Ivala Ivala' are good to listen. He composes a good background score in few selected portions. In few portions, the green matte work is clearly seen.

Director's Involvement with the Script - Director Sakthi Chidambaram is well-known for few of his super-hit films, which has entertained the audience to the core. After a long gap, he gives a comeback in Kollywood through 'Charlie Chaplin 2'. The first part 'Charlie Chaplin' was a great success, because of the strong humour content. Just because of that, this sequel has good expectations among the audience. The director has taken an usual plot only, where he tries to differentiate it through 'Whatsapp' connect. His idea of 'Whatsapp' connect is really good, which can be related with everyone easily. To justify this concept, he has used the 'blue double tick' in title logo and the Whatsapp message style in both title & end credits. With that idea, he tries to entertain the audience, by giving a strong importance to the humour content. But, his humour treatment makes the entire concept to go wrong. In few portions, his humour content works little bit and entertains the audience decently. Other than that, the humour looks silly only. So, his screenplay execution faces many troubles in providing an entertainment.

Screenplay Execution - In the first half, the film begins with a good start. After entering into the flashback, the screenplay goes in a very normal flow. The screenplay takes much time to create an interest. Till that, the humour treatment doesn't look much convincing. After the entry of Vivek Prasanna, the humour content enters into the comfort zone little bit. His humour helps to entertain the audience for an extent. The interval block is not bad. In the second half, the screenplay comes out of that entertaining flow initially. In the hotel scene, the humour content looks little bit convincing. Later, the screenplay introduces a twist, which looks good. That twist makes us to think that the entertainment will be stronger from that point. But, the director once again proceeds the screenplay with that twist in a normal way only. Towards the climax, the screenplay looks little bit entertaining. The climax portion is not bad, still it doesn't provide a strong fulfillment.

Main Negatives of the Film - The biggest negative of the film is nothing but the silly treatment of the humour content. Director Sakthi Chidambaram always makes a strong foundation for the humour content. In this film, his treatment doesn't fulfill the expectations of the audience. The songs placement of 'I Want To Marry You Mama' and 'Chinna Machan' are completely unnecessary, which spoils the flow. The logical loopholes are seen in most of the portions. The screenplay moves in a very predictable flow only. Just because of this, Sakthi Chidambaram's comeback ends up in a disappointing way.

Verdict
'Charlie Chaplin 2' is a below-average commercial entertainer from Sakthi Chidambaram. His 'Whatsapp' connect with the main plot is really good. Still, his screenplay execution doesn't look convincing. Prabhudeva and Vivek Prasanna entertains the audience for an extent. Other than that, the humour content doesn't provide a non-stop laughter experience. Still, few set of family audience may like it. This film deserves 'watchable once' category. Watch it with your family for a decent timepass, without any expectations.
