Plot - Rudra (Anurag Kashyap) is a serial killer in Bangalore, who targets and kills the son or daughter of high class people in the society. Anjali Vikramadhityan (Nayanthara), a CBI Officer handles this case. He keeps on challenging Anjali to catch him. Arjun (Atharvaa) is the younger brother of Anjali, who lives in Chennai. He broke up his relationship with his lover Krithika (Raashi Khanna) due to some misunderstanding. Why Arjun and Krithika becomes the target of Rudra and how Anjali puts an end to the serial killer forms the crux of the story.

'Imaikka Nodigal' is a pyscho thriller directed by R.Ajay Gnanamuthu of 'Demonte Colony' fame. This film is a multi star cast entertainer as Atharvaa, Nayanthara, Anurag Kashyap and Raashi Khanna plays the lead roles. 'Makkal Selvan' Vijay Sethupathi plays an extended cameo in this film and he comes as the pair of Nayanthara. The trailer and songs of the film has increased the hype among the audience. After several delays, the film finally hit the screens today.

Performance of the Star Cast - Nayanthara delivers a splendid performance and she really steals the show by giving a great tough to the antagonist. Her characterisation is really well-written with a proper proportion of brilliance and family emotions. Atharvaa's characterisation gets stronger only in the second half. In the second half, he looks very energetic and he delivers his usual convincing performance. Anurag Kashyap will be the next 'Siddharth Abhimanyu'. Through expressions itself, he shows the evilness of that character 'Rudra'. His characterisation is also framed in a very stronger way, which is the biggest strength of the film. The cat and mouse game between Nayanthara and Anurag becomes interesting and gripping, from scene to scene. Raashi Khanna makes a decent debut in Kollywood. She looks pretty in every frame and she delivers a decent performance in the given space. Vijay Sethupathi's extended cameo appearance is not a force fitted one. His character has a very good value. In that space, he delivers his usual performance. The chemistry between Vijay Sethupathi and Nayanthara is as usual superb. Ramesh Thilak gives his usual best, by playing a good supporting role for Atharvaa. Baby Manasvi scores well in few portions through her timing dialogues. VJ Abhishek Raaja of 'Open Pannaa' Youtube channel, makes a good screen presence in the film. All the other actors in the film have done their part very well.

Technical Works - R.D.Rajasekhar's cinematography is really excellent, in which visuals gives us a colorful treat. Some top-angle shots have been captured well. Bhuvan Srinivasan's editing is good, in which his cuts look sleek. But, the finishing touch looks improper in few portions. 'Hip Hop' Adhi's songs are really superb. My favourites are 'Vilambara Idaiveli' and 'Neeyum Naanum Anbe'. His background score is really terrific and ultimate, which helps to build up the suspense factor stronger. It helps the screenplay to be very intense.

Director's Involvement with the Script - Director Ajay Gnanamuthu's smart work is another biggest strength to the film. His writing is really convincing. With a strong characterisation of lead actors, he presents this pyscho thriller in a very convincing and gripping way. Because of this, the audience gets a stronger connect with the film. The comparision of protagonist and antagonist with lion-hyena hunt is really nice. He gives importance to the romance between Atharvaa-Raashi in the first half. In the first half, he moves the game from Nayanthara's act. In the second half, he makes use of Atharvaa along with Nayanthara. But, his treatment doesn't look unnecessary. With that track, he makes the conflict stronger. His screenplay execution has many brilliance act. His twists and turns in the second half are really good.

Screenplay Execution - In the first half, the film begins with a very good opening. Nayanthara's introduction is simple and massive. The screenplay becomes very engaging, as the game between Nayanthara and Anurag becomes interesting. The screenplay moves in a very good flow by focusing on the hunt for Rudra. In between this mission, Atharvaa-Raashi romance track comes. Towards the interval, the screenplay takes a top gear. The interval point is really superb, by creating a great expectation for the latter half. In the second half, the screenplay maintains the same level of intensity. The screenplay becomes very gripping and few twists are really unexpected. The flashback portion makes a strong impact. Towards the climax, the film completely becomes gripping. The climax is really superb, with a brilliant move.

Main Negatives of the Film - The director said that the duration of 170 minutes will not be a negative. Even though the film looks very lengthier, the director doesn't make the audience bored at any moment. Still, I felt that 150 minutes duration is enough for this film. The logical loopholes are always seen here and there in many films. But, in this case, the logical errors are seen in most of the portions. To make the screenplay gripping, the director has not concentrated on that. But still, he should have worked more to avoid it in few portions. The presentation of the romance track could have been more short and sweet. Still, the gripping screenplay execution makes us to forgive these flaws.

Verdict
'Imaikka Nodigal' is a very good pyscho thriller from the director 'Ajay Gnanamuthu', in which his screenplay execution is very engaging and intriguing. The game between Nayanthara and Anurag has been treated in an interesting and gripping way. Except the above mentioned flaws, the film doesn't deviate our interest at any moment. Like they promised, the audience will really come out of the theatre with complete fulfillment. So, this film really deserves 'must watchable once' category for the performance of Nayanthara, Atharvaa and Anurag Kashyap. Also, the film is really worth for the screenplay execution. Go and enjoy this multi-star cast entertainer with your family and friends.
