Plot - Raghav (Gautham Karthik) is a professional boxer, who lives happily with his father 'Chandramouli' (Karthik). Azhagar ('Director' Mahendran) is the owner of 'Garuda Call Taxi' company. He feels that 'Go Cabs' company as a biggest competitor to him. How the competition between these two cab companies plays a game in Raghav's happy life forms the crux of the story.
Performance of the Star Cast - Karthik has really given his usual best and casual performance. He is so energetic in this age too. Gautham Karthik delivers a very good performance and he has really improved a lot in emoting. The father-son bond comes as a small portion only. In that, the real father-son duo have given their best. Regina Cassendra comes as a glamour doll for 'Yedhedho Aanene' song. Apart from that, she also plays a good supporting role. Her performance is neat. Varalaxmi Sarathkumar comes in the flashback portion of the second half. As usual, she delivers her convincing performance. Santhosh Prathap plays his part neatly, with a noticeable performance. Sathish's humour will create a small smile instead of great laughter experience. But, he has given his best for the small supporting role. Director Mahendran and Mime Gopi have given their best. All the other actors have done their part well.
Technical Works - Richard M Nathan's cinematography impresses the audience with good and catchy visuals. T.S.Suresh's editing has given his best to maintain a good screenplay flow. His cuts doesn't have an any improper finish. Sam CS's songs are good. 'Yedhedho Aanene', 'Kallooliye' and 'Theeraadho Vali' songs are impressive. He has given a good background score, by knowing the situation and mood of the film.
Director's Involvement with the Script - Director Thiru joins hands with Gautham Karthik, after his consecutive films with Vishal. He makes the real father-son duo to act in this film, which creates a good hype among the audience. He has utilized their potential to the core. He handles 'cab based crimes' as a major part in the core plot. He treats it with commercial package to attract all set of audience. The commercial treatment looks good only in few parts, which makes the director more time to get into the plot. This is the reason for the first half to feel like not so interesting. But, the treatment of the second half looks decent and convincing.
Screenplay Execution - In the first half, the film opens with a good start for first 5-10 minutes. After that, the film deals with the introduction of father-son relationship and it travels with some small humour and romantic tracks. These tracks cover most of the portions in the first half. In between that, the film handles the 'cab based crimes'. The interval block looks good and it creates a good lead for the latter half. In the second half, the film travels in the emotional track initially. Later, the flashback portion comes. From that point, the film moves in a right track and it starts creating a good interest towards the film. The screenplay becomes engaging till the climax. The climax looks good with a small twist. The twist can be guessed by few people. Still, it looks convincing.
Main Negatives of the Film - The first half of the film has many issues. The commercial treatment looks usual, still it doesn't create any special interest. So, the audience feels many dull moments. The song placement of 'Rajaadhi Raja' comes as a speed breaker. In the second half, the flashback portion looks slightly lengthier which could have been trimmed. The seriousness of the plot goes missing in few parts.
Verdict
'Mr.Chandramouli' is a good entertainer from Director Thiru. His presentation of the first half makes the audience slightly unconvinced. But, his execution is really nice in the second half. Because of the convincing second half, the film gets saved from the danger zone. It will make the audience to feel that the film is not bad. So, this film deserves 'worth watchable once' category to enjoy this entertainer with family and friends. Watch it with low expectations.
