Plot - Lara Croft tries to find the truth behind her father's disappearance in an island, which leads her to an adventurous journey. What happens next forms the crux of the story.

'Tomb Raider' is a film, which is based on the 2013's famous video game 'Tomb Raider'. This film is also a reboot for 'Tomb Raider' film series, where 'Angelina Jolie' plays the 'Lara Croft' role. In this reboot, Alicia Vikander plays the role of 'Lara Croft'.

Performance of the Star Cast - Alicia Vikander delivers a solid performance as Lara Croft and she looks very energetic in both action & adventurous sequences. Dominic West delivers a convincing performance in the second half. Walton Goggins delivers his best performance as the antagonist. In some scenes, he should have concentrated more to make a strong impact for his characterisation. Daniel Wu plays a supporting character in the film, and he gives his decent performance in the given space. Kristin Scott Thomas plays a small cameo like role in this film.

Technical Works - George Richmond's cinematography looks so good, especially in action sequences. Stuart Baird and Tom Harrison handles the editing work, in which they maintains a proper flow of screenplay with sleek cuts. Tom Holkenborg's background score elevates the adventurous and action sequences in a very good level.

Director's Involvement with the Script - Director Roar Uthaug has given a good justification for the reboot of this series. His screenplay execution looks good without focusing on any unnecessary elements. But, he drags the screenplay in some parts, which could have been avoided. His focus on the action sequences is really good, in which it stands strong throughout the film. The detailing for the Japanese Queen 'Himiko' is excellent. His brilliance is superb by connecting some things in the form of a puzzle.

Screenplay Execution - In the beginning of first half, the small gist about Queen 'Himiko' sounds good. The cycle race scene looks amazing. Later, the screenplay gets into the main track after 15 minutes. The director takes some time to create a curiosity among the audience. Towards the interval, the screenplay becomes engaging with the action sequences. In the second half, the screenplay once again takes some time to get into the main track, after some emotional scenes. Later, the action scenes brings relief to the audience, with a strong interest towards the film. The entire climax portion is shot in an engaging manner, and also it makes us to enjoy it.

Main Negatives of the Film - Even though the screenplay execution is good, it creates an interest towards the audience only in action sequences. In many scenes, the usual treatment is only handled, which makes us to compare it with some films. The director drags some scenes to the core, in which he could have concentrated more to make it crispier.

Verdict
'Tomb Raider' is a good action-adventure thriller, in which the screenplay execution stands on both the positive and negative side. But, the action and adventurous sequences will make us to forgive those flaws. So, it deserves a 'worth watchable once' for Alicia's performance, and also for great action.

Cut Short Rating - 7.2/10
