Plot - What happens when Parapsychologist Dr. Elise faces her personal haunting in her childhood house, located in Mexico forms the crux of the story.
'Insidious: The Last Key' is the fourth installment in the franchise of 'Insidious'.
Performance of the Star Cast - Lin Shaya Ma'am delivered a solid performance and as usual scored well, and stood strong with the content throughout the film. Angus Sampson and Leigh Whanell delivered a very good performance. They scored very well in some humour portions. The other actors gave their best in the space given to them. Tessa Ferrer had a good role in the climax, where she got a space to emote.
Technical Works - Toby Oliver's cinematography work was very good, and his visuals were so superb and apt for this horror film. Timothy Alverson's editing work was nice, where his cuts stood strong in the connecting factor of some incidents. Joseph Bishara's background score was ultimate and it gave a great intensity for some horror scenes to get scared.
Director's Involvement with the Script - Adam Robitel handled this fourth installment, in which he tried his level best to sync with the James Wan's brilliance. But, he proved it in only some parts. In many scenes, he handled it in a very light manner. The placement of humour without disturbing the plot was very nice.
Screenplay Execution - Adam Robitel didn't take too much time in getting into the plot. The screenplay in both the half traveled in slow pace only. In the first half, the packaging of horror elements was used well in some parts. The interval block was good. In the second half, the spirit was used well enough for making some scary moments. The connection between some incidents were nice and it also had a good justification. The climax was with an usual ending, where the director should have tried some different stuffs into it. But the connection with the first part was nice.
Main Negatives - The slow pace will test patience level for some audience. Everything in the film looked very normal, so the intensity level for horror was low in some scenes. As it looked normal, the audience won't get fulfilled to the core. So, this horror film cannot be said as the best.
Verdict
'Insidious-The Last Key' had some good scary moments, with a very good background score to show it's intensity. But, the packaging of horror elements should have been more better for satisfying the audience to the core. The film doesn't have any boring moments. So, it deserves a decent one-time watch to get scared.
Cut Short Rating - 7.2/10
