Disclaimer - This list is just based upon my opinion, where I felt these films as 'Special Mentions of 2017'. Because, some films were good, but I couldn't add it in the 'Best Films of 2017'. So, this is a special post for those movies. Your opinions may differ from my list. So, don't take this seriously. Just compare this list with your favourite movies.
Best Commercial Entertainer - 'Mersal' and 'Si3'
These two films had a superb cast and crew. In these films, the plot and the screenplay execution was very usual one. But still, the screen presence of Vijay Anna in 'Mersal' and Suriya Anna in 'Si3' gave a refreshing feel to the audience along with celebration mood. These films were well received by the family audience.
Best Social Drama - Velaikkaran
This film was directed by Mohan Raja. The much needed content for the present society with a great impact to the audience was the biggest reason to reach well among the audience. The strong hard hitting content along with the relating factor were the another plus.
Best Family Drama - Pa Paandi
This film was directed by Dhanush, who made his directorial debut. His writing and screenplay execution was so superb, which looked like a film from an experienced director. Some families were able to connect this film with their lives, which was the biggest success.
Best Rural Drama - Karuppan
This film was directed by R. Paneer Selvam. The plot was very usual and we have seen so much of films like this. But, Vijay Sethupathi's screen presence and the blending of family emotions in a convincing manner were the biggest plus in this film. It got good response in 'B' and 'C' centres in Tamil Nadu.
Top 5 - Good Thriller Genre Films - These thriller genre films got good response from the audience for it's making style and screenplay execution.

Best Political Drama - Yaman
This film was directed by Jeeva Shankar. The plot with current political situation in a very gripping manner was the reason to well receive by the audience. One of the best performances by Vijay Antony in his film career.
Best Technical Background Film - Vivegam
This film was also mentioned in the 'Highly Disappointed Films of 2017' list due to the reaction of the general audience towards this film. But, if you see in this film, the technical works were really stunning. The power packed stunts, usage of new technology, terrific background score and visuals equal to Hollywood standard were the reasons to include in this category.
A Film with Decent Comedy - Gemini Ganeshanum Suruli Rajanum
This film was directed by Odam Ilavarasu. Atharvaa and Soori scored well in many comedy portions. The playboy plot was an usual one, but the treatment was in a fresh and colourful manner. Except some flaws, the humour was very decent and hilarious one.
Best Tamil Dubbed FIlm - Ghazi
This film is a bilingual film, but it was dubbed and released in Tamil. The plot based on a real incident with some good tamil dubbing were the reasons for the comfort of the Tamil audience. The patriotism content also stood strong with the film.
Best Feel Good Romantic Film - Meyaadha Maan
This film was directed by Rathna Kumar. He just made his short film 'Madhu' as a full feature film 'Meyaadha Maan' with many changes. The relating factor of one-side love with good humour, along the flow of the storyline were the biggest plus to well receive among the youngsters audience.
Best Feel Good Women Centric Film - Magalir Mattum
This film was directed by G.Bramma. Jyothika was the biggest reason for the success to get a wide reach among the women audience. Some feel good emotions by relating it to every family woman were the biggest plus.
Best Comedy Entertainer - Chennai 2 Singapore
This film was directed by Abbas Akbar. The plot had very usual elements of action and romance. But the humour element was so strong to hold the interest of the audience. The film was a complete laughter riot treatment to the audience.
Best Horror Entertainer - Aval
This film was directed by Milind Rau. The film had many usual horror elements, but it gave a different experience for horror lovers to come out of the horror-comedy genre. The making style with good detailing were the biggest plus along with the convincing performance by the star cast.
Best Horror Comedy Entertainer - Balloon
This film was directed by Sinish. The plot is not an usual one, but the packaging of horror and humour elements in a right proportion without disturbing the core plot was the biggest plus. This can be said as best horror-comedy genre after 'Yaamiruka Bayamey'.
A Film with Good Social Message - 'Kadugu', 'Kootathil Oruthan' and 'Puriyaatha Puthir'
These films share an equal proportion of positives and negatives. Because of that, the film was received well only by some set of audience. But still, these two films have a strong social message to the society.
Best Drama Genre- Rangoon
This film was directed by Rajkumar Periyasamy. This film was a turning point in Gautham Karthick's film career. He had a great scope to perform in this film. The storyline was simple. Yet it gave a different experience to the audience.
A Good Action Drama - Ulkuthu
This film was directed by Caarthick Raju. The revenge plot is not an usual one to Kollywood, but still the director's sincere efforts by making a good screenplay along with superb stunts were the biggest plus.
A Good Attempt - SOLO
This bilingual anthology film was directed by Bejoy Nambiar. Dulquer Salman had done a great effort for this film with different variations for his four characters. The music and the visuals were the biggest plus. In two stories, the director showed his excellence of writing. While in the other two stories, some situations were misunderstood by the audience. Still, it's a good attempt of this year.
A Very Decent Romantic Attempt - Kadhal Kan Kattudhe
This film was directed by Shivaraj. The plot was an usual romantic track, but the treatment of those cute romantic elements in a very decent manner was the biggest plus of this film.
A Film with Strong Evilness - Spyder
This film was directed by A.R.Murugadoss. In some aspects, the film failed to satisfy all the ages. But, everyone loved the strong characterisation of evil villain played by SJ Suryah.
Underrated Films of This Year - Some of the films in this year went underrated because of less promotions and the impact of other biggie releases.
