Plot - Jeeva is under a situation of directing a horror film to mark his debut in Kollywood and also for her wife's wish. When he comes to know about an haunted house in Ooty, he travels to Ooty with his family and friends. What's the connection between Jeeva and that house, and how he sorted out those problems forms the crux of the story.

Jai & Anjali were known as one of the cutest pairs in Kollywood after the successful chemistry worked out in Engeyum Eppodhum. This lovely pair joined hands once again for the film 'Balloon' along with superb cast and crew.

Performance of the Star Cast - Jai made a perfect comeback in this film by delivering a very good performance with nice variations. Anjali's characterisation got stronger after some time and from there, she scored well. Janani delivered a good performance in the flashback portion. Yogi Babu and Karthick Yogi had done a great job in the humour portions and created a great hilarious situation amidst the horror background.

Technical Works - Saravanan's cinematography was so amazing, in which the Ooty locations were so lively with a proper balance of colour tones. Ruben's editing work was nice and as usual he made proper cuts. Yuvan Shankar Raja Sir's background score gave a great pulse to the high intense horror sequences. 'Mazhai Megam' song was my favourite.

Director's Involvement with the Script - Director Sinish said in many interviews that his film has been inspired from other horror scripts. In the beginning credits itself, he made his point clear to the audience. His treatment of this horror genre with proper proportion of humour and scary moments was really appreciable. His presentation with good packaging of entertainment was the biggest plus.

Screenplay Execution - The usual pattern and rules of horror genre films had been followed in the execution of screenplay. In the first half, the screenplay was so good to hold the interest of the audience, just because of the one-liners of Yogi Babu and counter punches by the boy, who played the character 'Pappu'. The interval block was an expected one. In the second half, the film focused on the main flashback and the revenge portions. So, the humour portions came in-between and gave a comfort zone to the audience. The climax ending with Thala-Thalapathy references were convincing. The final touch by the director was an unexpected one.

Main Negatives - Due to the usual content and cliches, some may feel uncomfortable with the film for not handling any new stuffs. The second half travels in a slow pace for few minutes, which created a lagging issue. On the other side, some common negligible mistakes were seen here and there.

Verdict
'Balloon' is a typical horror genre film, in which we have seen many films like this in recent years. But after 'Yaamiruka Bayamey', this horror genre gave a laughter riot experience to the audience. The entertainment is guaranteed in this film. So, neglect the flaws and don't miss to watch this horror-comedy entertainer.

Cut Short Rating - 7.7/10
